Goede beautyproducten hoeven echt geen aanslag op je bankrekening te zijn. Deze beauty bargain is budgetvriendelijk, gewoon goed en betekent meer geld op de ‘Ooit koop ik een Kelly van Hermès’-spaarrekening.

Gezichtsmaskers kenden de voorbije jaren een grote revival, deels dankzij de introductie van het sheet mask in onze contreien. Sheet masks, je weet wel, die vliesmaskertjes die je er doen uitzien als de zus van Hannibal Lecter of Freddy Krueger, zitten vol hydraterende en/of anti-ageingbestanddelen die dankzij het masker beter in je huid kunnen dringen.
Je hebt ze in alle vormen en maten en in alle prijscategorieën. Duurder is daarom niet per se beter. Dat bewijst ondermeer het Energizing Boost Tissuemasker van Kruidvat dat € 0,99 kost. Ik herhaal: 99 cent.
Budgetskincare doet bij de meeste skincarefanaten formulegewijs meteen een belletje rinkelen, maar Kruidvat stopte (deze keer) geen paraffinum liquidum of een andere vorm van minerale oliën of petrolatum in zijn formule. (Die ingrediënten probeer ik zoveel mogelijk te mijden. Ze zorgen snel voor een aangenaam en goed aanvoelende huid, maar kunnen op lange termijn het droge huid-probleem verergeren.)
De keten gebruikte kalmerende aloë vera die de huidvernieuwing moet stimuleren (als vierde ingrediënt in de INCI-lijst), avocado-olie (het vijfde ingrediënt) die de huid belooft te hydrateren en verzachtende cupuaçuboter (als zesde ingrediënt van 21). Glycerine, het tweede ingrediënt, staat al lang bekend als hydraterend bestanddeel.
Het masker is bedoeld voor de vermoeide huid, wat dat ook mag betekenen, en belooft een snelle energieboost. Aan de ingrediënten af te leiden gaat het vooral je huid van vocht voorzien en voeden.
Wat die energieboost betreft: het masker zorgt voor een instant fris gevoel op mijn post-douche, rood uitgeslagen wangen. (Het lijkt me dus ook een aanrader in de zomer.) Ik laat het tien minuten inwerken en masseer dan het overgebleven serum in mijn huid. Die voelt zacht en goed gevoed aan, de roodheid is intussen weggetrokken, maar de formule laat wel een beetje een kleverig gevoel na. Maar voor net geen euro is het Energizing Boost Tissuemasker een écht budgetkoopje met een zeer goede prijs-kwaliteitverhouding.

The whole facial mask revival of the last couple of years is partly due to the introduction of sheet masks in the Western world. Sheet masks may make you look like Hannibal Lecter’s sister but they are also filled with hydrating and/or anti-ageing ingredients that can penetrate skin better thanks to the mask.
They come in all forms and sizes and in all price categories. But expensive does not necessarily mean better. The proof: this Energizing Boost Tissuemasker by Kruidvat that costs € 0,99. I repeat: 99 cents.
Budget skincare makes skincare fanatics look at the ingredient list quicker than you can say budget beauty but I was pleasantly surprised to see Kruidvat did not add paraffinum liquidum or other (cheap) mineral oils to its formula. (I try to avoid them as they work on the short run: they do make skin feel soft and supple but might not be that good for your skin on the long term.)
The brand used aloe vera to calm the skin and boost cell regeneration (the 4th ingredient), avocado oil to hydrate skin (the 5th ingredient) and cupuaçu butter to soften skin (the 6th ingredient). Glycerin, the second ingredient, is known for its skin replenishing qualities.
The sheet mask was developed for tired skin – whatever that means – and promises a quick energy boost. If you take the ingredients into account it will especially lock moisture in your skin and nourish it.
About that promised energy boost: the mask did feel very cooling on my post-shower red cheeks. (And might be wonderful on a hot summer day.) I left it on for 10 minutes and massaged the rest of the serum into skin. My skin felt soft and hydrated but the formula did leave a slightly sticky feeling.
At 0,99 € the Energizing Boost Tissuemasker is a real budget beauty buy that has a good price-quality relationship.
