From now on, at the end of every month, Sofie and I will share the beauty products we loved using that month with you. A lipstick that turns out to be mask proof, a calming serum that saved our skin after a bad reaction, a great bodylotion that kept our legs nice and soft without feeling sticky… These are a few of our favourite things…

Foam Tastic Things Hydrating Foam Serum Body & Face by Skin by Dings, 40 €

This light and airy foam is a great multitasker. You can use it as a soothing aftersun, as a hydrating face serum or a daily nourishing bodylotion. It feels nice and fluffy when you massage it in, does not feel sticky and makes my daily I need to slather my whole body with bodylotion ritual a lot more fun. My skin feels soft and smooth after using it. For the ingredient freaks: it contains niacinamide, vitamins C and E, panthenol, plant based oils, glycerin, lactic acid and hyaluronic acid. The hypoallergenic fragrance with chamomile leaves a soft smell behind and I haven’t reacted to it (up until now). And: it is 100% made in Belgium, which I like as well.

Toleriane Ultra Dermallergo Serum by La Roche-Posay, 28 €

I always have this serum at the ready for when my skin plays up and my cheeks get all red and feel burning hot after an (allergic) reaction. This month I needed it a couple of times to calm them down after they reacted to pollen. (I am allergic to grass pollen.) Neurosensine helps reduce skin sensibility, glycerin strengthens the skin barrier.

As soon as you apply this serum, it feels cool, calming and hydrating. After a couple of hours my cheeks have completely calmed down. I also like using it as a precaution, after using a product with a high(er) concentration of AHAs or BHA, to prevent possible reactions and hydrate and nourish my skin.

I also love to combine it with La Roche-Posay’s Tolériane Ultra 8 spray, which is being taken out of the range in Belgium. (If you happen to bump into one in the pharmacy, grab it before you no longer can!)

Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint SPF30, 51 €, at Bella Mi Beauty in Gent

I got a couple of Instagram DMs this month of people complementing me on my glowy skin. Coincidence or not, I wore this tinted serum on every picture or video they commented on. Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint is a hype on Instagram and I get why. This is a very clever skincare meets make-up hybrid that gives skin a lovely glow and offers natural, light coverage while it nourishes skin at the same time.

The formula contains squalene, niacinamide, aloe vera, bisabolol and hyaluronic acid amongst other things, ingredients I like to use to strengthen my skin barrier and keep my skin calm and well-hydrated. Non nano zinc oxide offers SPF30 protection and is a nice sun filter if your skin cannot tolerate synthetic ones. (But to be clear: you will never use enough product, especially not if it is a make-up product, to get that exact SPF protection. You need 1 tea spoon worth of product for that.) The serum is fragrance-free, which is great if like me you are allergic (or sensitive) to fragrance.

L’Oréal Elsève Extraordinary Oil More Than Shampoo, 6,49 €

Regular visitors of this blog know I have an extremely sensitive scalp that is easily put out of balance. Which is why I am always very careful with haircare products, especially shampoos. But I also have thick, dry hair and a lot of it, which is why I got triggered by this More Than Shampoo by Elsève. It promises to cleanse like a shampoo and nourish like a mask.

The compact cream texture looks more like a mask than a shampoo. When you apply it on wet hair, you get a soft mousse but not a proper foam. I massage it in, then rinse it out immediately after. My hair feels as if I treated it to a mask and stays clean for a couple of days.

Although sodium laureth sulfate is one of the first ingredients on the INCI (it makes my scalp dry out easily and start itching), my scalp stays itch-free. Which proves the formula of a product really can make a difference and you need not only trust its INCI. Since trying it for the first time I haven’t really used any other shampoos. My daughter, who has long and fine hair, uses it too. The bottle is nearly empty but my hair still likes it. It is shiny and soft without there being a film on it that makes it greasy.

Ydrosia Be Mist!, 79€

I have a soft spot for Belgian beauty brands and the list keeps on getting longer. A while ago the young entrepreneur Emmanuelle Le Gall sent me a DM to ask whether she could send me her product to test. Be Mist! is a nourishing detox mist that hydrates, detoxifies, regenerates and offers antioxidant protection.

I have never been a spray user as did not believe a spray could do much more than freshen up skin. Until I discovered La Roche-Posay’s Tolériane Ultra 8 spray that proved I was wrong. Now that I tested Be Mist! I am convinced a spray can make a difference. Well, not all sprays but these two can. I use it after cleansing and before I apply a serum. The mist contains 12 ingredients (amongst them hyaluronic acid, soothing aloe vera, the antioxidant SOD and Lactobacillus ferment) of 99,89% natural origins that hydrate and soothe skin. It has a very natural but not unpleasant smell. I did not expect much when I started using this mist in my skincare routine but I soon noticed my skin looked calmer, better hydrated and fresher. I finished the bottle quite quickly. Luckily, Ydrosia also offers environment friendly refills and even a monthly subscription you can always cancel.

Delbôve Sorcière d’Amour Herbal Tea, 24 € and Ultra Sorcière Crème, 80 €

I’ve been fascinated with ‘beauty drinks’ for a while now. I know tea is not really a beauty product but I love drinking it. Plus, I do what I want on my blog, so meet my third April favourite, a herbal tea by Belgian skincare brand Delbôve. I got it as a gift with a press sample of the Ultra Sorcière repairing cream for weakened skin. The cream is way too rich for my mixed skin so I use it on my lips (it works great!) and on my hands (it makes them all soft). It also works magic on my daughter’s eczema.

But the tea made me even happier: it is a blend of soothing plant extracts: rose, hawthorn and honey clover make for a lightly sweet flowery aroma that tastes as good as it smells. It truly is une tisane bienfaisante pour le coeur et l’esprit, an infusion that benefits the heart and spirit.
