Het is een even groot kerstcliché als All I Want for Christmas Is You op de radio in de kerstperiode, maar veel glans en wat zilver of goud op ogen en jukbeenderen wérkt met de feesten. Daar zorgen de volgende vier producten voor, maar je kan ze ook perfect gebruiken voor een (iets feestelijkere, toegegeven) dagelijkse make-uplook.
Ik beken: twee van de vier palettes zijn dat niet aangezien ze maar één product bevatten, maar ze zijn zo mooi dat je me die dichterlijke vrijheid ongetwijfeld vergeeft.

Naked Honey Eyeshadow Palette van Urban Decay, € 55.
Urban Decay strikes again met een nieuw Nakedpalette: 12 door goud geïnspireerde tinten oogschaduw waaronder het glanzende Amber, het matte bruin Sting en Honey, een intens metallic goud. Heerlijk warme kleuren die iedereen staan, ongeacht je oog- of huidskleur, en zoals altijd een goede mix van mat, glanzend en metallic zodat je zowel een makkelijke look voor elke dag creëert als feestelijke disco-ogen. Bonus: dit dubbelzijdige borsteltje is geen goedkoop extraatje, maar de naam make-upborstel echt waardig. Een fijn penseel om oogschaduw aan te brengen (met de ene kant) en te blenden (met de andere).
Dior Backstage Custom Eye Palette in 001 Universal Neutrals van Dior, € 52,51.
Dior komt met een vierde Custom Eye Palette in zijn Dior Backstage-lijn en daar moet je niet rouwig om zijn. Na Warm, Cool en Amber Neutrals is er nu ook Universal Neutrals, het meest feestelijke palette van de vier. Het heeft een primer, highlighter, shimmeroogschaduw en matte, een gouden topcoat en een slimme shadow-to-linergel waardoor je elke tint oogschaduw ook als eyeliner kan gebruiken. Geweldig voor een gouden of zilveren oogopslag met Oudjaar, maar de Shimmer Taupe is ook een fantastische past bij alles-tint voor elke dag.
Météorites Goldenland Face Powder van Guerlain, € 59.
Een nieuwe kerst, een nieuwe versie van de iconische Météoritesbolletjes. De bekende viooltjesgeur is dezelfde gebleven, maar deze keer komen de poederbolletjes in vier tinten die de teint opwarmen en voor een mooie glow zorgen, ongeacht je huidskleur: roze goud en zacht koper doen de huid stralen, zacht bordeaux verbetert de teint en wit reflecteert het licht. Volgens het merk blenden ze “harmonieus samen om een warm, delicaat licht te creëren dat doet denken aan dat van de zonnestralen net voor de avond valt.” Je gebruikt dit poeder over het hele gezicht of als highlighter.
Eclat Magnétique de Chanel Illuminating Powder in 500 Metal Peach van Chanel, € 60.
Ook Chanel stopte een universele highlighter in zijn kerstcollectie. (Goed om weten: deze is vrij van parfum.) Metal Peach is een satijnen perziktint en gebruik je als highlighter op de jukbeenderen, over of onder je oogmake-up of over het hele gezicht. Zoals altijd is er veel oog voor detail en een link met het modehuis: het patroon in het poeder is geïnspireerd op een vintage Chanelknoop. Très chic.

Whether you are looking for the perfect Christmas gift for a make-up lover or whether you just want to treat yourself to something new for all the Christmas parties you have planned, these four newbies will turn you and someone else into shiny happy people.
It might be as big of a Christmas cliché as All I Want for Christmas Is You on the radio in the weeks leading up to 25 December but loads of shimmer and shine and some silver and gold on the eyes and cheekbones do look gorgeous in the party season.
These four products will provide you with party ready glowy skin and eyes but you can easily use them in your everyday make-up routine too.
I confess: half of the palettes are not worthy of the name as they contain one single product but they are so pretty I think you can forgive me for adding them to a palette edit.

Dior launched its fourth Custom Eye Palette in its Dior Backstage range and that’s a good thing. Universal Neutrals joins the Warm, Cool and Amber Neutrals and is the most festive one of the bunch. The palette contains a primer, highlighter, shimmery eye shadows and matte ones, a golden topcoat and a clever shadow-to-liner gel that turns any eye shadow into an eyeliner. This palette has your silver or gold eye make-up look for New Year’s Eve sorted but the Shimmer Taupe looks great as an every day wear with anything make-up too.
Météorites Goldenland Face Powder by Guerlain, 59 €.
A new Christmas, a new version of the iconic Météorites powder pearls. The famous violet scent is the same but the pearls now come in four hues that warm up your face and give it a nice glow, no matter what your skin tone. Rose gold and soft copper reveal your skin’s radiance, a blush wine shade enhances your complexion and white pearls reflect the light. According to the brand they “blend harmoniously to create a warm, delicate light like that of the sun’s rays just before dusk.” You use this powder all over the face for all over glow or as a highlighter.
Eclat Magnétique de Chanel Illuminating Powder in 500 Metal Peach by Chanel, 60 €.
Chanel also created a universal highlighter for its Christmas collection. (Good to know: this one is fragrance free.) Metal Peach is a satiny peach that can be used as a highlighter on your cheekbones, on top of or under your eye make-up or on the entire face. As always with Chanel, there is attention to detail and a link with the fashion part of the fashion house: the pattern in the powder is based on a vintage Chanel button. Très chic.
