Allergisch aan parfum, of je vermijdt het bestanddeel het liefst? Deze vier foundations zijn vrij van parfum (en essentiële oliën).

Het slechte nieuws: de Forever Skin Glow-foundation van Dior, een fantastisch product voor een egale, stralende teint zonder dat je eruit ziet als een discobal, bevat parfum. Het goede nieuws: een foundation zonder parfum vinden is makkelijker dan een dito lipstick. Die van Clinique zijn altijd vrij van parfum (al zijn skincare en make-up trouwens) en ook veel professionele make-upmerken als M.A.C en Make Up Forever stoppen doorsnee geen geur in hun foundations. De INCI checken blijft wel aangeraden om onaangename verrassingen te vermijden.
Die inspanning deed ik al voor je met deze vier (nieuwe) foundations. Hun gemeenschappelijke deler, op geen parfum na: ze ‘bewegen’ mee met de huid waardoor ze erg goed blijven zitten en voelen erg licht aan.
Stay Naked Weightless Liquid Foundation van Urban Decay, € 39
De claims: mat, licht en waterproof. Belooft ook 24 uur te blijven zitten; ik heb geen idee waarom je make-up het zo lang zou moeten uithouden, maar mocht je ooit naar Australië vliegen en dat met foundation op willen doen, weet dan dat het kan.
Deze vegan formule komt in maar liefst 50 tinten, van heel licht tot heel donker, die rekening houden met de mastertone en ondertonen van de huid zodat je de perfecte match voor je huidskleur vindt. De kleuren zijn onderverdeeld volgens 9 intensiteitsniveaus (hoe licht of donker je huid is), 3 mastertones en 7 undertones.
Ik liet me op een hete dag in augustus kleur matchen bij Ici Paris XL op de Meir en blijk zowel een neutrale onder- als mastertone te hebben. Mijn tint, ook in de bijhorende concealer, maar je foundation- en concealerkleur kunnen ook van elkaar verschillen: 30NN, ofte licht neutraal met een neutrale ondertoon. Ik werd tijdens de sessie opgemaakt met de concealer en foundation en het moet gezegd: ze bleven ondanks zo’n 10 km stappen in de hitte goed zitten. De finish is mat, maar niet levenloos, de dekking is medium maar kan worden opgebouwd. Fijne foundation, maar ik had liever geen alcohol denat., een uitdrogende alcoholsoort, als vierde bestanddeel gezien. (Dat gezegd draag je doorsnee skincare onder je foundation waardoor dat uitdrogende effect misschien al bij al erg goed meevalt.)
Ook goed om weten: de kleur blijft dezelfde, in tegenstelling tot andere foundationformules die vaak lichtjes veranderen zodra je ze hebt uitgewerkt.
Face Finity All Day Flowless 3-in-1 Foundation van Max Factor, € 17,99
De claims: primer, foundation en concealer in één die zorgt voor een vlekkenloze, feilloze dekking die je niet voelt zitten. (De formule werd geherformuleerd.)
De foundation is beschikbaar in 8 tinten (vrij teleurstellend in tijden van inclusivity) en bevat een SPF20. Ik vind een zonnefilter in een foundation een leuke bonus, ook al moet je wel begrijpen dat je nooit die volledige bescherming zal halen, tenzij je je gezicht vol plamuurt met foundation.
Absorberende micro-correctors camoufleren imperfecties en houden overmatige glans in het gezicht onder controle, wat overeenkomt met de primerclaim van deze foundation. Een hoge dosis fijne pigmenten belooft een goede dekking, de concealerclaim.
De vrij vloeibare formule voelt fijn aan en kan je makkelijk uitwerken, maar ik vind wel dat ze wat in droge plekjes kruipt, waardoor je ze wat op je huid ziet liggen als je jezelf van dichtbij in de spiegel bekijkt. Al bij al een mooi ‘budgetproduct’, als je de juiste kleur kan vinden.
Photofocus Foundation van Wet ‘n Wild, € 7,49, bij Di
De claims: een Instagramproof foundation die niet leidt tot witte reflecties op je selfies door de flash van je smartphone. (Persoonlijk is dit nu niet meteen mijn eerste vereiste voor een goede foundation.) De formule belooft ook lang perfect te blijven zitten.
Deze vegan foundation komt in 6 kleuren (weinig, jawel) en heeft niet het meest handige doseersysteem: je draait het flesje open en brengt de formule aan met een soort pipetje, ik prefereer een pompsysteem, wat de formule in mijn ogen ook langer goed houdt en hygiënischer werkt. (Er bestaat trouwens ook een foundationstick in het gamma.) Je kan ze mooi uitwerken en de dekking opbouwen.
De finish is mat, maar niet té mat en voelt op mijn hand zacht aan. Ik testte de kleur geen hele dag op mijn gezicht omdat ze me er iets te veel als een Oompa Loompa deed uitzien. (Golden Beige is te donker voor mij.) Als je de juiste tint voor je teint vindt, denk ik dat dit wel eens een fijne foundation zou kunnen zijn. Aan een erg fijne prijs.
Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation van Shiseido, € 50
De claims: de ActiveForce-technologie reset zichzelf als het ware continu zodat het 24 uur lang lijkt alsof je je gezicht nét hebt opgemaakt. De transfer-proof formule is bestand tegen zweet, sebum en gezichtsexpressie.
De foundation is in België beschikbaar in 30 tinten en heeft een medium dekking die je kan opbouwen. Niet goedkoop, maar de formule bevat heel wat extraatjes: wilde tijmextract werkt als antioxidant, een beschermend polymeer zorgt ervoor dat pollutiepartikeltjes niet aan de huid blijven plakken en het Smart Correcting Powder dat de textuur en teint van de huid belooft te verbeteren. Met ook een SPF30.
Dit is een fijne foundation met een matte finish, maar ze geeft de huid op de een of andere manier toch een lichte glow.

You are allergic to fragrance in cosmetics or you prefer to avoid it? These four foundations are fragrance free. (No essential oils either.)
The bad news: Dior’s divine Forever Skin Glow foundation that gives you glowy, perfect skin without looking like a disco ball contains fragrance. The good news: it is not as hard to find a fragrance free foundation as it is to find a fragrance free lipstick. Clinique does them (all its skincare and make-up is fragrance free by the way) and a lot of professional make-up brands like M.A.C and Make Up Forever usually do not put fragrance in their foundations. However, always check the INCI before your purchase. I saved you the hassle and checked the ingredients of these four (new) foundations.
Their common denominator, next to being fragrance free: they “move along” with your skin, meaning they stay put for a long time. And they feel weightless to boot.
Stay Naked Weightless Liquid Foundation by Urban Decay, 39 €
The claims: matte, light and waterproof. Promises to stay put for 24 hours, which I never quite get because why would you need your make-up to stay perfect for so long? Unless you want to wear foundation on your flights to Australia.
This vegan formula comes in 50 shades, from very pale to very dark, that take into account the mastertone and undertones of the skin so you can really find THE colour to match your face. The colours are divided into 9 intensity levels (from light to dark), 3 master tones and 7 undertones.
I got colour matched on a very hot August day at Ici Paris XL on the Meir in Antwerp. Turns out I have a neutral master and undertone. My perfect match, also as concealer, although your concealer can be different from your foundation: 30NN, or light neutral with a neutral undertone. I was obviously made up with the concealer and foundation and I have to say: they stayed put despite my 10 km walk in the summer heat.
The finish is matte but not deathlike, the coverage is medium but can be built up. I think it is a really nice foundation but I do not like alcohol denat. (a drying type of alcohol) being the fourth ingredient on the INCI. That said, I always wear foundation over my skincare, so the drying effect of the alcohol might not be that drying at all.
Also good to know: the colour stays the same all day long, unlike other foundation formulas that tend to change a bit once applied.
Face Finity All Day Flowless 3-in-1 Foundation by Max Factor, 17,99 €
The claims: primer, foundation and concealer in one for perfect coverage you do not feel. (The formula has been reformulated.)
The foundation comes in 8 shades – pretty disappointing in the era of inclusivity – and has an SPF20. I think an SPF in a foundation is a nice bonus BUT you will never get the full protection of the SPF unless you apply about a teaspoon’s worth of foundation. (But why would you want to do that?)
Absorbing micro-correctors help conceal imperfections and keep that shiny nose bridge under control, which is the primer aspect of the foundation. A high dose of fine pigments promises good coverage, the concealing claim.
The quite liquid formula feels nice and can be easily blended into skin but I did find it tends to be sucked up by dry patches in my face. I could see the product on my nose, which is quite dry, when I looked at myself in close-up. But all in all a very decent “budget” foundation, if you can find the right colour for your skin tone.
Photofocus Foundation by Wet ‘n Wild, 7,49 €, at Di
The claims: an Instagram proof foundation that helps eliminate white particle reflection on selfies taken with a flash. (I have to say this would not come up as one of my foundation requirements.)
This vegan foundation comes in 6 colours – not enough I know – and does not have the most handy dosing system: you unscrew the bottle and apply the foundation with a sort of pipette. I prefer a pump, which keeps the formula fresh for longer and is more hygienic. (There is also a foundation stick in the range by the way.)
The formula can be easily blended and coverage can be built up. Its finish is matte but not too matte and feels soft on my hand. I did not wear the colour on my face as it made me look a bit too much like an Oompa Loompa. (Golden Beige is too dark for me.) If you can find the right colour for your skintone, I think this could be a really nice foundation. And a very budget proof one as well.
Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation by Shiseido, 50 €
The claims: the ActiveForce technology refreshes itself so it always looks as if you have just made up your face. The formula is sweat, oil, transfer and facial expression proof.
The foundation is available in 30 shades in Belgium and offers medium, buildable coverage. It does not come cheap but it does contain some ingredients that give this foundation something extra: wilde thyme extract works as an antioxidant, a protective polymer makes sure pollution particles cannot adhere to skin and the Smart Correcting Powder promises to enhance skin’s surface texture and tone. It also has an SPF30.
This is a very nice foundation with a matte finish that somehow manages to give skin a sort of natural glow as well.
