Van een mooie glow en erg transparante dekking tot een formule die met gemak donkere kringen dekt: deze vier “foundations” zorgen elk op hun manier voor een mooie huid en zijn vrij van parfum.

Allergisch zijn aan parfumfamilie 1 en linalool betekent afscheid nemen van geparfumeerde producten en in sommige gevallen was dat een extra pijnlijk afscheid. De gewéldige Touche Eclat All-in-One-Glow Foundation van Yves Saint Laurent voor een Instagramfiltereffect op je huid, de serumtextuur van Maestro Fusion Make-up van Armani die je huid de hele dag mat houdt, Forever Skin Glow van Dior voor een glowy teint… We gingen uit elkaar en ik verbande ze uit mijn badkamer, maar het was een moeilijke breuk.
Je hoeft niet per se naar de apotheek voor een geurloze foundation. Met wat zoeken vind je hem ook in de parfumerie en de drogisterij. Ik deed het detectivewerk al voor je en voegde deze vier toe aan mijn “veilige” make-uplijst.
Clinique iD Dramatically Different Moisturizing BB-gel van Clinique, € 49.
Clinique iD speelt slim in op de trend van gepersonaliseerde cosmetica: je mixt je favoriete hydraterende basis met een booster die inspeelt op een bepaald huidprobleem. Ik stopte het groene boosterconcentraat (voor de gevoelige, geïrriteerde huid) in de nieuwe BB-gel. (De gel is trouwens ook beschikbaar zonder concentraat.)
De olievrije formule met glycerine en hyaluronzuur belooft 8 uur hydratatie en voelt net zo fris en licht aan als de Hydrating Jelly die ik in de zomer graag gebruik wanneer je niet het gevoel wil hebben dat er een dikke laag huidverzorging op je huid ligt.
Dit is zo’n hippe toverformule die zich aan je huidskleur aanpast. Wanneer je de grijzige gel in de huid masseert, komt het pigment vrij. Clinique raadt aan het product eerst tussen je vingers of op je handrug open te wrijven zodat de pigmenten optimaal openbarsten.
Verwacht géén dekking zoals die van sommige BB-crèmes die in de buurt van foundation komen: het pigment in deze formule past zich aan je teint aan, maar dekt geen donkere kringen of roodheid. Je huid krijgt wél een mooie gloed en ziet er wat frisser uit. Een leuk product voor zogezegd make-uploze dagen waarop je er toch graag wat fris uitziet.
Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation van Shiseido, € 46.
Een matte, maar stralende huid, het klinkt tegenstrijdig, maar dat is exact waar deze foundation voor zorgt. De formule ‘vernieuwt’ zichzelf waardoor ze de hele dag door mooi blijft en bestand is tegen vocht, warmte, talg en beweging. Je kan haar mooi opbouwen van medium tot vrij dekkend. (Roodheid verdoezelen? Check!)
Bonus: de SPF30, ook al smeer je nooit de juiste hoeveelheid om aan die volledige bescherming te raken.
In België is de foundation beschikaar in 30 tinten, van heel licht tot heel donker.
Infaillible Longwear Shaping Stick Foundation van L’Oréal, € 14,20.
Je kan even moeten zoeken naar deze stick: je vindt hem nog online, maar niet bij grote spelers als Kruidvat. Ik gok dus dat L’Oréal Paris hem niet langer in ons land verkoopt (hij is er nog wél op zijn Amerikaanse webshop) en dat is jammer. Ik denk dat het merk het product wat fout gepositioneerd heeft, waardoor het bij ons geen groot succes was: het klinkt alsof je hem enkel als contourstick gebruikt (en dat kan ook, als je een tint kiest die twee tinten donkerder is dan je eigen huid), maar ik gebruik deze graag als gewone foundation, in de juiste kleur!, overal waar nodig.
Foundationsticks voelen vaak wat log aan en zijn doorsnee moeilijk om mooi uit te werken voor een naturel resultaat, maar deze glijdt erg vlot over de huid en blendt mooi in de huid waardoor je hem niet ziet zitten. Je bouwt de dekking makkelijk op door meer laagjes aan te brengen. Net als andere Infaillible-producten blijft deze onberispelijk en lang zitten. Handig ook on the go, want geen uitloopgevaar en makkelijk uit te werken met je vingers.
Dior Forever Skin Correct van Dior, € 34,50.
Is het een concealer, is het een foundation, nee dat is het niet. Het is ze eigenlijk allebei. Ik was/ben grote fan van de Diorskin Forever Undercover-concealer, maar deze nieuwe concealer belooft nog langer te blijven zitten (25 versus 8 uur) en komt met een breder borsteltje waardoor je makkelijk grotere zones kan corrigeren, of hem als foundation kan gebruiken. Ik gebruik hem op rode wangen en donkere kringen en heb daarna geen foundation meer nodig. Je bouwt de dekking mooi op van medium tot dekkend. De formule verzorgt de huid ook, ze bevat hydraterende bestanddelen en antioxidanten, en is beschikbaar in 30 kleuren.

Transparant but glowy coverage, a long-lasting matte finish, a covers dark circles and redness with ease formula… These four “foundations” create beautiful skin in their own way and are free from fragrance.
Being allergic to fragrance family 1 and linalool meant I had to say goodbye to fragranced cosmetics and in some cases the parting was hard. Yves Saint Laurent’s incredible Touche Eclat All-in-One-Glow Foundation aka an Instagram filter turned foundation, Armani’s serum-like Maestro Fusion Make-up that kept my skin matte all day long, Dior’s Forever Skin Glow for perfectly glowing skin… I broke up with them and they moved out of my bathroom but I still miss them.
Luckily you do not need to go to the pharmacy to find a fragrance-free foundation. If you look carefully – and I did – you can find some very good ones in the drugstore and the perfumery. I added these four to my “safe” make-up list.
Clinique iD Dramatically Different Moisturizing BB-gel, 49 €.
Clinique iD is a clever take on the personalised beauty trend: you mix your favourite hydrator with a booster that tackles a specific skin concern. I put the green booster concentrate (for sensitive, irritated skin) in the new BB-gel. (You can buy the gel on its own as well by the way.)
The oil-free formula with glycerin and hyaluronic acid promises to hydrate for 8 hours and feels just as light and fresh as Clinique’s Hydrating Jelly I like to use in summer when I do not want to feel a “thick” layer of skincare on my skin.
The BB-gel is one of those hip miracle formulas that magically adapts itself to your skin tone. When you massage the greyish looking formula into skin the pigment is released. Clinique advises to rub it between your fingertips or on the back of your hand first before you apply it on your face to fully release the pigment.
This is not a BB cream that could easily be mistaken for a (medium) foundation: the pigment adapts to your skin tone but does not cover up redness or dark circles. However, the formula makes my skin look all glowy and healthy and a bit fresher. It’s a nice one to use on ‘make-up free’ days when you still want your skin to look like itself but a tad better.
Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation by Shiseido, 46 €.
Matte but glowy, it sounds contradictory but that is exactly what this foundation does. The ‘self-refreshing’ refers to the foundation’s promise to stay put all day long and resist sweat, water, heath, oil and movement. You can build up coverage easily from medium to pretty full-on. (No more red cheeks? Check!) Bonus: it comes with an SPF30.
The brand offers 30 colours in Belgium but there are more.
L’Oréal Paris’ L’Infaillible Longwear Shaping Stick Foundation, 14,20 €.
This foundation stick is still available online but seems to have disappeared from Belgian stores. I am guessing L’Oréal Paris no longer sells it in our country – it is still available on the brand’s American webshop – and that is a pity. I think the brand positioned this product the wrong way: it sounds as if you can only use it as a contour stick (that is an option if you pick a shade that is two shades darker than your own skin tone) but I like using it as a regular foundation. In the right shade.
Foundation sticks often feel a bit thick and hard to blend, making them a no go if you want a very natural result but this one glides over skin smoothly and blends perfectly. You can easily build up the coverage by adding more layers. As with the other Infaillible products this foundation stays put a long time. It’s a handy on the go product too as you can easily blend it into skin with your fingers.
Dior Forever Skin Correct, 34,50 €.
I was/am a big van of the Diorskin Forever Undercover concealer but this newcomer promises to stay put even longer (25 hours versus 8) and has a bigger brush, meaning you can correct larger zones and even use it as a foundation all over. I like using it on red cheeks and dark circles and do not need foundation after that. The coverage goes from medium to full-on. The long-lasting formula also promises to hydrate and work against ageing and is available in 30 colours.
