Easy breezy beach hair

Beach waves zonder de knopen (door de zeebries) en het stugge gevoel (door zand en zeezout)? Een beach wave-spray zorgt zonder al te veel moeite voor zomers zeemeerminnenhaar.

Het makkelijkste zomerkapsel, daar zorgen de zeebries en het zeewater voor, of een dagje in de vochtige Highlands, geloof me, maar in je badkamer zorgt een goede beach wave-spray voor het effect van een actief dagje strand. De nieuwste formules voeden bovendien je lokken en zorgen voor een minder stug gevoel.

Voor mij blijft Surf Infusion van Bumble & bumble de beste beach hair-spray, maar die mag ik niet meer gebruiken (lang leve een allergie voor parfum en linalool!). Deze twee nieuwkomers eigenlijk ook niet (ze zijn allebei geparfumeerd en die van Yves Rocher bevat een glucoside waaraan ik ook allergisch ben), maar ik kon er toch niet aan weerstaan ze elk één keertje uit te proberen. (En mijn hoofdhuid zoveel mogelijk te vermijden en vooral op mijn punten te focussen.) Omdat ik lui ben wanneer het op mijn haar en het stylen aankomt en ik dus helemaal pro stylingproducten ben die je op nat haar aanbrengt dat je vervolgens simpelweg aan de lucht laat drogen.

Ter info: ik heb van nature golven (vooral aan de achterkant van mijn hoofd, aan de zijkanten wat minder). Een zoutspray hoeft op mijn haar dus niet van nul te beginnen (zoals bij steil haar) om het meer beweging te geven.

MonoÏ Beach Effect Spray van Yves Rocher, € 13,90.

Ik laat mijn fris gewassen haar geregeld in een knot opdrogen om meer golven te creëren. Deze zoutspray speelt in op die techniek: je brengt hem aan op droog haar dat je oprolt op een knot, laat het tien minuten inwerken, maakt je lokken los en je hebt golven.

In mijn geval waren die heel licht, of de formule werkt op erg steil haar weet ik niet. Mijn haar voelde wel zacht aan (er zit wat kokosolie in de formule) en panthenol helpt vocht vasthouden. Je moet wel dol zijn op de exotische geur van monoï want die is héél sterk aanwezig en blijft erg lang hangen. (Ik rook het de volgende dag nog.)

Nymph Salt Spray van Authentic Beauty Concept, € 27, bij de kapper.

Deze spray belooft “lichtgewicht” en “non-crunchy” golven en dat klopt. Mijn haar blijft zacht aanvoelen. De golven zijn heel licht, maar ik heb ook niet heel veel product gebruikt. Als je hem gebruikt in combinatie met een krultang, krijg je volgens mij een nog mooier gedefinieerd resultaat. Het parfum is minder overweldigend dan dat van Yves Rocher.

Beach waves without the knots (made by the sea breeze), nor the scrunchy feeling (thanks to sea salt and sand)? A beach wave spray gives you tousled mermaid hair without any effort.

The easiest summer do is created by the sea breeze and sea water – or a day in the humid Highlands, believe me – but a good beach wave spray brings the seaside effect to your bathroom. Plus, the new generation contains nourishing ingredients and makes your hair feel less crunchy.

I still think Bumble & bumble’s Surf Infusion is the best beach hair spray out there but I can no longer use it (long live being allergic to fragrance and linalool!). These two newbies aren’t allowed either (they’re both fragranced, plus, the Yves Rocher one has a glucoside, which I am allergic to as well) but I could not resist testing them once. (I tried to avoid my scalp as much as possible and focussed on the lengths and ends of my hair.) I am very lazy when it comes to my hair and styling it, so I simply love a good styling product you can simply spritz on (wet) hair and then let your hair air-dry.

Good to know: I have natural waves (especially at the back of my head), a salt spray defines them more but does not need to create a wave from scratch, like it has to on straight hair.

MonoÏ Beach Effect Spray by Yves Rocher, 13,90 €.

I often pull my freshly washed and half dried hair in a knot to create a stronger wave. This salt spray uses that technique: you simply spritz it on dry hair, put your locks in a bun, wait for 10 minutes, then take the bun out to find your hair all wavy. (Well, that’s the promise.)

The wavy effect was quite light on my hair, so I do not know whether the formula will work on straight locks. My hair felt soft and smooth (there’s some coconut oil in the formula) and panthenol, a humectant, helps keep moisture locked in hair. You do have to LOVE the exotic and sweet smell of monoi oil because the formula is very fragranced and the smell lingers for a very long time.

Nymph Salt Spray by Authentic Beauty Concept, 27 €, at the salon.

This spray promises “light weight” and “non crunchy” waves and that’s exactly what you (well, I) get. My hair felt soft but was slightly tousled. Again, the wavy effect was light but I did not use that much product either. I guess that if you combine the spray with a curling iron, you get a more defined effect. The fragrance is much less out there than the Yves Rocher one.
