Wat? Huidverzorging op basis van fairtrade biohoning, geschikt voor de hele familie.
Wie? Marine André maakte haar eindwerk over natuurlijke huidverzorging op basis van honing. Ze besloot om de theorie in praktijk te brengen en lanceerde Bee Nature in 2012 als eerste Belgische natuurlijke verzorgingsmerk in de apotheek.
Waarom kopen? Honing is een eeuwenoud natuurmiddel met verschillende troeven. Ze houdt goed vocht vast, werkt ontsmettend en bevat zowat alle voedingsstoffen die de huid nodig heeft.
Waar? In de apotheek en online.
Onze aanrader. De Helende Balsem. Honing is een supermiddel om snel wondjes te genezen, maar de balsem is net iets praktischer en minder kleverig.
Wat? Belgische cosmeceuticals, ofte simpel gezegd cosmetica met krachtige actieve bestanddelen die een bewezen werking op de huid hebben en haar zichtbaar verbeteren. De producten worden ook gebruikt in het schoonheidsinstituut en het bedrijf maakt ook huidverbeteringstoestellen voor de professional.
Wie? Bernard Van Acker had zeven jaar geleden het idee om cosmeceuticals voor het grote publiek op de markt te brengen. Het Brusselse laboratorium Teonia produceerde eerst Evocure en Neocure, nu Celestetic. De producten worden samengesteld door een team van wetenschappers en apothekers.
Waarom kopen? Omdat de producten inspelen op een bepaald huidprobleem dat je liever anders zou zien: acne, rimpels, pigmentvlekken, littekens, roodheid, dehydratatie…

Onze aanrader. De Activepeel Herstellende Nachtcrème met 12% amandelzuur, 2% salicylzuur en 2% glucosamine vervaagt pigmentvlekken en rimpels en helpt je teint egaler maken terwijl je slaapt. (Amandelzuur is één van de zachtere AHA-zuren, handig wanneer je glycolzuur niet goed verdraagt zoals ik. Héél gevoelige huidjes vermijden deze peeling wel beter.)
Wat? Cîme staat voor sociaal geëngageerde en natuurlijke huidverzorging op basis van Himalayplanten. Lokale gemeenschappen in de Himalaya oogsten op fairtrade basis geneeskrachtige planten die door de vader van Anke verwerkt worden in natuurlijke huidverzorging. Ze krijgen een eerlijke prijs voor hun werk en worden ondersteund met materiaal. Cîme ondersteunt ook onderwijsprojecten van lokale NGO’s.
Wie? Isabel en Anke, twee vriendinnen die elkaar kennen sinds hun rechtenstudies, droomden van een eigen bedrijf. Een trektocht door de Himalaya leidde tot een fascinatie voor de lokale flora die de lokale bevolking verwerkt in traditionele hulpmiddeltjes.
Waarom kopen? Wanneer je je steentje wilt bijdragen aan een betere wereld.

Onze aanrader. De Himalaya Universele Balsem is een allrounder bij muggenbeten, kloofjes, huidirritatie…
Wat? Brusselse natuurlijke huidverzorging, gebaseerd op homeostase, de theorie dat de huid zich als levend organisme kan aanpassen aan alle omstandigheden en zich kan vernieuwen als ze in evenwicht is.
Wie? Kapper Roger Delbôve en zijn vrouw Marion, die bij Helena Rubinstein had gewerkt, lanceren in 1967 de Crème Sorcière. Andere producten volgen en worden in zijn Brusselse kapsalons verkocht. In 2011 koopt Gina d’Ansembourg, die al jaren trouwe fan is van Delbôve, het merk over, geeft het een verjongingskuur en herlanceert het twee jaar later. De retro apothekerspotten blijven.
Waarom kopen? Als je fan bent van natuurlijke bestanddelen (Marion Delbôve geloofde sterk in de helende kracht van medicinale planten) om acne/rosacea/rimpels/een verslapte huid aan te pakken.
Waar? Online, in de winkel (Abdijstraat 67, 1050 Brussel) en bij Necessities (Steenhouwersvest 28, Antwerpen).
Onze aanrader. Het Rituel Sorcière, ofte het Magic Cleanser Duo, dat aan de oorsprong van het merk ligt. De Eau en Crème Sorcière beloven naast zacht, maar grondig reinigen (ze halen ook make-up weg) ook de huidbarrière te versterken. Je kan beide producten ook apart gebruiken. De Eau verzacht ondermeer muggenbeten, de crème werkt ook prima als dagcrème.
Wat? Natuurlijke huidverzorging op basis van essentiële oliën, voor mensen die graag tot in detail weten wat ze op hun huid smeren.
Wie? Marleen Maras werkte als onderzoekster in een ecotoxicologisch labo. Ze verbaasde zich erover dat er verschillende stoffen in huidverzorging werden gebruikt die niets voor de huid deden, vaak integendeel.
Waarom kopen? Het merk is bijzonder transparant en geeft uitvoerig uitleg over de gebruikte ingrediënten op zijn blog.

Onze aanrader. Een ontdekkingskit, aangepast aan je huidtype.
Wat? Natuurlijke wilde rozenbottelolie uit de Andes mét biolabel. De wilde rozenbottels worden door lokale vrouwen uit het Maiwe-gebied in de Andes geplukt, koud geperst en verwerkt met zaad- en vruchtenextracten tot het Rosehip Oil Serum. Aangevuld met een half alfabet aan vitaminen en essentiële vetzuren biedt het een totaalverzorging voor de gevoeligste huidjes.
Wie? Na 5 jaar in Chili kwam bio-ingenieur Maaike Ryffelaere terug naar België met een dochter en een fascinatie voor wilde planten, clean beauty en fairtrade.
Waarom kopen? Het is biologische topkwaliteit en je helpt de pluksters aan een fair inkomen. Een zeer puur product in alle opzichten, met een handvol ingrediënten (geen parfum!) en een duurzame verpakking van gerecycleerd en recycleerbaar karton, glas en plastic.

Onze aanrader. Het Rose Hip Oil Serum, zonder onnodige toevoegingen. Geen parfum, geen essentiële oliën die ook dienst doen als parfum. (De geur van dit serum is dus bijzonder puur.)
Wat? Slow cosmetica van eigen bodem op basis van biologische ingrediënten en essentiële oliën.
Wie? Sophie Trenteseaux is een ancien uit de cosmetica-industrie die zich omschoolde tot aromatherapeute. Ze opende een beautyboetiek in Brussel, gespecialiseerd in natuurlijke huidverzorging, waaronder haar eigen label Makesenz. Daar geeft ze ook workshops in natuurlijke cosmetica.
Waarom kopen? No-nonsense skincare met eenvoudige, volledig natuurlijke formules in verpakkingen die je kan laten navullen.
Waar? Online. En in de boetiek (Simonisstraat 60, 1050 Brussel).
Onze aanrader? Het Glowing Skin Serum, een volledig natuurlijke gelaatsolie op basis van zonnebloem- en jojobaolie met een maceraat van wortel en essentiële oliën.
Wat? Gezichts- en lichaamsverzorging voor thuisgebruik en producten en toestellen voor het schoonheidssalon. Nannic gebruikt een maximale concentratie aan actieve bestanddelen om de huid te verbeteren en verjongen. Alles wordt in Heist-op-den-Berg geformuleerd en geproduceerd.
Wie? René Nagels en Tine Janssens zijn de derde generatie die het familiebedrijf sinds 1999 runt. Nagels’ grootvader bedacht een permanenttoestel voor zijn vrouw die kapster was, de tweede generatie ontwikkelde cosmeticaformules voor internationale merken.
Waarom kopen? Als je houdt van innovatieve huidverzorging die vol bestanddelen zit die echt wat voor je huid doen. (De NBE Deep Skin- en Radiofrequentiebehandeling in het instituut is trouwens ook een aanrader voor wie er zichtbaar jonger wil uitzien.)
Waar? In het schoonheidssalon en op de webshop.
Onze aanrader. Het White Willow Bark Peeling Mask. We zijn beide grote fan van dit peelingmasker met BHA-zuur dat zijn werk goed doet, maar toch zacht en dus voor zowat elk huidtype geschikt is. (Je kan zelfs een dun laagje de hele nacht laten inwerken zonder dat je de volgende ochtend wakker wordt met een gezicht vol rode vlekken.) Een aanrader bij acne, of wanneer je je huid een zachte peeling wil geven.
Wat? Nomige is een woordspeling van het Engelse genome, een synoniem voor DNA. Dat ligt aan de basis van het Nomigeconcept: huidverzorging, ontwikkeld op maat van je DNA. Persoonlijker dan dit wordt het niet.
Wie? Doctor Barbara Geussens is een bolleboos met meerdere diploma’s in dermatologie, cel- en gentechbiologie. Ze deed ervaring op in productontwikkeling bij Omega Pharma en lanceerde eind 2017 Nomige.
Waarom kopen? Met de DNA-test krijg je een analyse van de genetisch bepaalde troeven en zwakheden van je huid. Zo kan je heel gericht je huid verzorgen in functie van wat ze écht nodig heeft. De lifestylecrème speelt dan weer in op je levensstijl en kan je aanpassen naar gelang het seizoen, je stressniveau (stress heeft ook invloed op je huid)…
Waar? Nomige werkt samen met esthetische klinieken, maar je kan alles ook online bestellen.
Onze aanrader. De gepersonaliseerde skincareroutine met vier producten is niet goedkoop, maar wij zijn fan van het eerste uur en intussen aan de -tigste refill bezig. De texturen zijn erg aangenaam en je hoeft niet langer na te denken over welke serums je met welke dag- en nachtcrèmes moet combineren om je huid zo goed mogelijk te verzorgen.
Wat? Een antibacterieel alternatief voor traditionele deodorant.
Wie? Apotheker Inge Louf wilde een alternatief voor traditionele antiperspiranten met aluminiumzouten die de zweetklieren tijdelijk blokkeren. Ze vindt niet dat het zweetproces moet worden onderbroken, wél dat geurtjes moeten worden aangepakt. Haar oplossing: de Deo Wash en Deo Scrub schakelen de bacteriën uit die een zweetgeur veroorzaken. Je transpireert dus nog, maar dat ruik je niet (langer).
Waarom kopen? Als je liever niet naar zweet geurt, maar de natuur wel haar gang wil laten gaan. Het product aanbrengen op droge oksels, even laten inwerken, afspoelen en je blijft minstens 24 uur zweetgeurvrij. Nog een bonus: deze producten zorgen niet voor gele kringen in witte blouses en t-shirts.
Waar? Bij de apotheek en online.
Onze aanrader. De Deo Wash, die gebruik je op haarloze zones. (De scrub op voeten en behaarde zones.) Goed om weten: het testformaat gaat acht dagen mee, handig om te testen of Oy wat voor je is en of het werkt.
Wat? No-nonsense huidverzorging zonder nasties (al horen we dat woord niet graag, het geeft sommige ingrediënten een onnodig slechte reputatie).
Wie? Toen hij merkte welk verschil voedingssupplementen maakten voor zijn gezondheid en huid, verdiepte Dominique Bastin zich verder in suppletie. Hjj liet een paar kwalitatieve supplementen en proteïneshakes ontwikkelen, later volgde de natuurlijke huidverzorging met een hoog lifestylegehalte.
Waarom kopen? De lokale productie (in België en onze buurlanden) en de ecologische aanpak zijn een belangrijk argument voor bewuste consumenten. De mooie verpakkingen maken van Rainpharma een echt love brand.
Waar? Te koop bij apotheken, schoonheidsinstituten en online.
Onze aanrader. We zijn allebei fan van het Charming Broccoli Seed Mask, goed voor (hoofd)huid én haar, als je de sterke geur kan verdragen.
Wat? Verfijnde zepen die volgens traditionele recepten en van A tot Z in België worden geproduceerd. Voor lichaam en haar.
Wie? In 1922 richten Emile Collin en parfumeur Alexis Huylenbroeck de Karak Soap and Perfumery Works op, het bedrijf begint in 1926 zijn eerste zepen te produceren. In 1953 neemt Henri Nanson over. Na drie generaties nemen Vincent Laurencin en François Van de Velde het familiebedrijf over. Ze lanceren hun eigen merk én worden in 2016 hofleverancier.
Waarom kopen? Mooie kwaliteitszepen van eigen bodem én zero waste.
Waar? Op de webshop, maar ook bij verschillende parfumerieën (de lijst met verkooppunten vind je op de website).
Onze aanrader. Ginger & Lime is één van de bestsellers, maar je hebt nog veel andere lekkere geurtjes om uit te kiezen.
Wat? Natuurlijke huidverzorging met oog voor esthetiek en duurzaamheid.
Wie? Als moeder van een kind met een eczeemhuid raakte voormalig psychologe Isabelle Ulenaers erg bedreven in het ontcijferen van ingrediëntenlijsten. Het verbaasde haar dat ze zoveel ingrediënten zag die niet geschikt waren voor de gevoelige huid. En dat het zo moeilijk was om producten te vinden waar ze helemaal kon achter staan. Dus besloot ze die zelf te maken.
Waarom? Kokos-, argan- en macademia-olie worden aangevuld met essentiële oliën van geranium en sinaasappel en verwerkt in aangename texturen. De ingrediënten worden fair trade aangekocht en zijn voor 70% biologisch. Verpakkingen bestaan uit recycleerbaar plastic en gerecycleerd karton.
Waar? Te koop in apotheken, schoonheidsinstituten, lifestyle winkels en via de webshop.
Onze aanrader. De Fine Delicate Body Butter is een smeuïge crème met een aangename natuurlijke geur die de huid zacht en glad maakt.
Skin by Dings
Wat? Zonbescherming die het héle gezin graag gebruikt, moeilijk te overtuigen partner en kinderen incluis. Er is nu ook een ontsmettende handgel. Alles wordt in België geproduceerd.
Wie? Ciska Dings, marketingconsultant met jaren ervaring in de beautywereld en oprichtster van de webshop Things by Dings, vond maar geen zonbescherming die aan haar eisen voldeed: zonder foute bestanddelen, fijn om smeren en geschikt voor haar hele gezin. Dus ontwikkelde ze die zelf (met de hulp van een formulator).
Waarom kopen? Omdat je je huid best het hele jaar door tegen huidveroudering (en ergere schade) veroorzakende zonnestralen beschermt, maar dat liefst doet met producten die je graag gebruikt én die je huid ook verzorgen. De formules van Skin by Dings bevatten naast oceaanvriendelijke zonnefilters antioxidanten en andere bestanddelen die huidveroudering helpen voorkomen en beschermen ook tegen infrarood en blauw licht en pollutie.

Onze aanrader. Met de Next Best Things Multi-Protection Face Mist werk je overdag snel je zonbescherming bij en je kan hem eenvoudig over make-up heen gebruiken. De verstuiver werkt bovendien op lucht, niet op vervuilende drijfgassen.

Bee Nature
What? Skincare with fairtrade organic honey suited for the entire family.
Who? Marine André wrote her thesis on natural skincare based on honey. She decided to put theory into practice and launched Bee Nature in 2012 as the first Belgian natural skincare brand sold in the pharmacy.
Why should I buy it? Honey has been used for centuries to heal skin. It helps lock moisture in skin, has a disinfecting function and contains nearly all the nutrients skin needs.
Where? In pharmacies and online.
We recommend. The Healing Balm. Honey is great to help wounds heal quickly but this balm is more practical and less sticky.
What? Belgian cosmeceuticals, simply put: cosmetics with powerful active ingredients that are proven to visibly ameliorate skin. The products are used during professional facials and body treatments and the company also develops and produces skin improving devices for beauty therapists.
Who? Bernard Van Acker had the idea to bring cosmeceuticals to a bigger audience 7 years ago. The Brussels lab Teonia first produced Evocure and Neocure, it now produces and develops Celestetic. The products are being developed with a team of scientists and pharmacists.
Why should I buy it? Because these products help tackle a skin problem you would like to change: acne, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, scars, redness, dehydration…

We recommend. The Activepeel Repairing Nightcream with 12% mandelic acid, 2% BHA and 2% glucosamine fades pigmentation spots and helps even out skin tone while you sleep. (Mandelic acid is one of the more gentle AHAs, it’s a great one if you cannot tolerate glycolic acid that well like me. However, very sensitive skin types should nog use this peeling.)
What? Cîme stands for socially engaged, natural skincare with fairtrade ingredients from the Himalayas. Local communities harvest healing plants that Anke’s father turns into natural skincare. The local population gets paid an honest wage and is being supported with the right materials to do its job. Cîme also supports teaching projects set up by local NGO’s.
Who? Isabel and Anke, two friends who met during their law studies, dreamed of starting up their own company. A hiking tour in the Himalayas led to a fascination for the local flora that was being used in traditional potions and lotions by the local people.
Why should I buy it? If you like to help make the world a better place.

What? Brussels natural skincare based on homeostasis, the theory that skin as a living organism can adapt itself to all circumstances and can renew itself when it is in balance.
Who? Hair stylist Roger Delbôve and his wife Marion, who used to work for Helena Rubinstein, launched the Crème Sorcière in 1967. Other products followed and were sold in his hair salons. In 2011 Gina d’Ansembourg, a big fan of the brand, bought Delbôve, gave it a makeover and relaunched it two years later. She kept the retro-looking brown pharmacy jars.
Why should I buy it? If you like using natural ingredients (Marion Delbôve strongly believed in the healing power of medicinal plants) to treat acne/rosacea/wrinkles/sagging skin.
Where? Online, in the Brussels store and at Necessities in Antwerp.
We recommend. The Rituel Sorcière, or the Magic Cleanser Duo that is at the origin of the brand. The Eau and Crème Sorcière promise to cleanse skin thoroughly but gently (they also get rid of make-up) while supporting the skin barrier. You can use both products separately too: the Eau soothes mosquito bites for example. The Crème also works as a day cream.
What? Natural skincare based on essential oils for people who like to know in detail what they are putting on their skin.
Who? Marleen Maras used to work as a researcher in an eco toxicological lab. She was surprised to find that so many different ingredients were being put into skincare that did nothing for skin, often the opposite.
Why? Enfleur is a very transparant brand that discusses the ingredients it uses extensively on its blog.

We recommend. A discovery kit, adapted to your skin type.
What? Wild harvested, organic rosehip oil from the Andes is the main ingredient in this recently launched skincare range. Women from the Maiwe area in the Andes harvest wild rosehip and turn it into cold-pressed oil. The products are suited for (very) sensitive skin.
Who? Bioengineer Maaike Ryffelaere lived in Chile for 5 years. She came back to Belgium with her daughter and the idea to turn her fascination for wild plants, clean beauty and fair-trade into a skincare brand.
Why should I buy it? The products are of the best organic quality and you help women in the Andes to a fair income. Plus, the products are very pure: they contain only necessary ingredients and come in sustainable recycled and/or recyclable packaging.

We recommend. The Rose Hip Oil Serum, rich in vitamin A and C and essential fatty acids. No unnecessary ingredients means no fragrance or essential oils that are used to make a product smell nice. Which makes this serum a good option for (very) sensitive skin that often reacts to fragrance ingredients. (Side note: the smell of this serum is very pure and natural.)
What? Slow cosmetics based on organic ingredients and essential oils.
Who? Sophie Trenteseaux is an ancien in the cosmetics industry who retrained to become an aromatherapist. She opened a beauty shop in Brussels that specializes in natural skincare, one of the brands being sold being her own label Makesenz. You can also follow natural cosmetics workshops in the shop.
Why should I buy it? If you like no-nonsense skincare with simple, all natural formulas in refillable packaging.
Where? Online. And in her boutique (rue Simonis 60, 1050 Brussels).
We recommend. The Glowing Skin Serum, an all natural facial oil with sunflower seed and jojoba oil and a carrot and essential oils macerate.
What? Skincare for face and body you use at home and products and devices for beauty salons. Nannic uses the maximum concentration of actives to improve and rejuvenate skin. Everything is developed and produced in Heist-op-den-Berg.

We recommend. The White Willow Bark Peeling Mask. We are both big fans of this gentle peeling mask with white willow bark (BHA) that does what it needs to do (loosen dead skin cells and cleanse pores) but is gentle enough to be suitable for any skin type. (You could even keep a thin layer of the mask on your face all night long without waking up with red irritated skin.) This peeling mask is recommended if you have acne but anyone who wants to give his/her skin a gentle peeling can use it.
What? Nomige is a play on words of genome, a synonym for DNA, which is the starting point of this brand: it develops personalized skincare products that are adapted to your DNA. Skincare does not get any more personal than this.
Who? Doctor Barbara Geussens knows her skincare stuff: she has degrees in dermatologic sciences, cel and genetic engineering. She used to work in product development at Omega Pharma before launching Nomige in 2017.
Why should I buy it? After your DNA test you get an extensive analysis of the influence of your genes on your skin and the right products to give your skin what it exactly needs.
Where? Nomige works with aesthetic clinics but you can also order the brand online.
We recommend. We know Nomige is not cheap but we have been fans ever since it was launched and keep reordering its products.
What? An antibacterial alternative for traditional deodorants.
Who? Pharmacist Inge Louf wanted to create an alternative for traditional antiperspirants that use aluminium salts to temporarily block the sweating glands. She does not think transpiration should be blocked but does believe your sweat should not have a nasty smell. Her solution: the Deo Wash and Deo Scrub kill the bacteria that give sweat a scent. So you still sweat but don’t smell.
Why should I buy it? If you do not like any nasty smells but still want to let nature run its course (and sweat). You apply the product on dry armpits, let it sit for two minutes, rinse if off and you are free from smells for at least 24 hours. Another bonus: Oy does not leave yellow stains on white clothing like some deodorants do.
Where? At the pharmacist and online.
We recommend. The Deo Wash, which you use on shaved skin. (The scrub can be used on feet or hairy body parts.) Good to know: the test size lasts you 8 days, which is handy to test whether Oy works for you.
What? No-nonsense skincare, free from nasties (although we do not like that word as it gives some skincare ingredients an unnecessary bad reputation).
Who? When Dominique Bastin noticed how nutritional supplements made a real difference for his health and skin, he started studying them in-depth. Which led to the development of qualitative supplements and protein shakes. And then came the natural skincare in pretty packaging that turned out to be a huge success.
Why should I buy it? If you are looking for sustainable beauty products that work. Everything is produced locally (in Belgium and our neighbouring countries) and the brand has an ecological approach to things. The pretty packaging is a great bonus.

We recommend. We are both fans of the Charming Broccoli Seed Mask, which is great for skin, scalp and hair. But you have to stand the strong smell of this fragrance-free formula.
What? Quality soaps made following traditional recipes in Brussels. For body and hair.
Who? In 1922 Emile Collin and perfumer Alexis Huylenbroeck founded the Karak Soap and Perfumery Works. The company started producing its first soap bars in 1926. In 1953 Henri Nanson took over. After three generations the family-owned company was bought by Vincent Laurencin and François Van de Velde. They launch their own brand that becomes a Belgian Warrant Holder in 2016.
Why should I buy it? These are soap bars of high quality, 100% Belgian and zero waste to boot.
Where? On the webshop and in perfumeries (you can find a list of points of sale on the website).
We recommend. Ginger & Lime is one of the bestsellers but there are plenty of other fragrances to choose from.
What? Natural skincare with an eye for aesthetics and sustainability.
Who? Ex-psychologist Isabelle Ulenaers became a pro at deciphering the INCI of skincare products to find something to suit her daughter’s eczema skin. She was surprised to find so many ingredients that were not suited for sensitive skin and found it hard to find suitable products she believed in. So she decided to make them herself.
Why should I buy it? Coconut, argan and macadamia nut oils and essential oils of geranium and orange are used in pleasant textures. The ingredients are fair trade and 70% of them are organic. The packaging is made out of recyclable plastic and recycled cardboard.
Where? At pharmacies, beauty salons, lifestyle shops and on the webshop.
We recommend. The Fine Delicate Body Butter is a lovely cream with a nice natural smell that makes skin feel soft and smooth.
Skin by Dings
What? Sunscreen the entire family likes to use, even the hard to convince husband and children. There is also a disinfecting hand gel. Everything is produced in Belgium.
Who Ciska Dings, a marketing consultant with years of experience in the world of beauty and founder of webshop Things by Dings, did not find sunscreen products to suit her needs and requirements: with the right ingredients, great to use and suited for the entire family. So she developed them herself (with the help of a formulator).
Why should I buy it? Because you need to protect your skin all year round against the skin damaging rays of the sun but you want to do that with products you like using and that care for your skin. Skin by Dings formulas contain ocean-friendly sunscreens, antioxidants and other ingredients to help prevent skin ageing and protect against uv, infrared and blue light and pollution.
Where? On the webshop and in a selection of boutiques.
We recommend. The Next Best Things Multi-Protection Face Mist is a great product to reapply sunscreen throughout the day and you can spray it over your make-up as a last step in your morning routine. The spray works on oxygen by the way, not on propellants.
