Of je nu volle Emily in Paris-exemplaren hebt of minder opvallende streepjes, met de juiste make-up zet je je wenkbrauwen extra in de verf. Deze vier recente lanceringen beloven alvast volle(re) wenkbrauwen.

Brow Microfilling Pen in Deep Brown van Benefit, € 27,90, o.m. bij Ici Paris XL.
Deze pen met drie puntjes belooft een microbladingeffect, maar dan zonder de pijn en logischerwijs niet-permanent. Je trekt simpelweg haaltjes in je wenkbrauwen waar nodig; de inkt bootst haartjes na zonder dat die er fake uitzien. Ik vind het begin van mijn wenkbrauwen wat te dun en zet daar graag een paar opwaartse haaltjes (met de langste punt het dichtst bij mijn neusbrug) voor een iets voller, maar nog steeds naturel resultaat.
Aan het hoogste punt van je wenkbrauwen, de ‘arch’ draai je de pen, het uiteinde vul je in met diagonale neerwaartse bewegingen. Het is wat zoeken, maar afhankelijk van hoe je de pen vasthoudt, teken je drie haartjes of slechts eentje.
De ‘haartjes’ blijven lang zitten dankzij de waterproof, langhoudende formule en je kan er andere make-up over aanbrengen zoals wenkbrauwmascara. Tip: gebruik deze pen voor je andere make-up aanbrengt of dagcrème smeert. Als mijn huid wat vetter aanvoelt door foundation of rijkere skincare, ‘pakt’ de pen niet (zo goed) op mijn huid.
Brow Duo in 03 Cool Brown van Clarins, € 27.
“Jij hebt iets met je wenkbrauwen gedaan,” is het eerste wat mijn vriend zegt nadat ik voor het eerst dit product heb gebruikt. Klopt. Je kan er met dit twee-stappenplan dan ook makkelijk wat ‘over’ gaan. Less is zéker more. Je bouwt best rustig op en werkt de formules liefst goed uit, anders kan het wat lijken alsof ze dik op je wenkbrauw liggen. (Ik gok ook dat naarmate je het product meer gebruikt het resultaat minder opvallend gaat worden, net zoals een nieuwe mascara vaak pas na een paar weken gebruik de ideale textuur heeft bereikt.)
Je brengt eerst het poeder aan, dat definieert en maakt je wenkbrauwen voller. (Het heeft een verrassende textuur en voelt fris als water aan.) Daarover komt de fixerende mascaragel die voor nog meer kleur zorgt.
Je kan deze pen vergelijken met het klassieke duo van poeder en fixerende wax in één doosje, maar ik vind het een handiger systeem waarvoor je niet per se een bijkomend wenkbrauwborsteltje voor nodig hebt. (Dat kan wél helpen om het product wat uit te werken als je te veel hebt aangebracht.)
Brow Addict Tint & Shaping Gel in 03 Dark Brown van NOTE, € 11,99, bij Kruidvat.
Ook dit is een twee-in-éénproduct: eerst intekenen met de vloeibare gel met verzorgende walnotenolie, dan fixeer je de haartjes met de mascara.
Dit is prijs-kwaliteit een érg fijn product: de kleur blijft de hele dag goed en ‘pakt’ ook op de huid onder mijn wenkbrauwhaartjes waardoor je instant voller ogende wenkbrauwen krijgt. (De kleur (Dark Brown) bevalt me net iets beter dan het Cool Brown van Clarins.) Wel opletten dat je het begin van je wenkbrauw niet te fel aanzet met de gel, dat kan wat fake ogen. En nog een grote bonus: ik voel deze formules helemaal niet zitten, wat ik erg aangenaam vind.
Brow Extensions Fiber Pomade Crayon in 06 Deep Brown van Maybelline New York, € 8,99.
Nee, die rare haartjes op de foto zijn geen vreemdsoortige schimmel, wél vezeltjes die je wenkbrauwen er optisch voller doen uitzien. Ze worden vaak toegevoegd aan getinte wenkbrauwmascara, maar nu dus ook aan een potlood. (Max Factor deed dat eerder dit jaar al, maar dat product lijkt niet langer te bestaan.)
Hoe meer haaltjes je zet met deze vezelgel, hoe voller het effect. Té vol? Dan ga je er even met een wenkbrauwborsteltje door, wat ik sowieso doe om haartjes op hun plek te kammen nadat ik mijn wenkbrauwen heb opgemaakt.
De gel blijft lang zitten en houdt haartjes ook onder controle. Het enige nadeel: met de nogal dikke punt teken je niet zo makkelijk de uiteindes van je wenkbrauwen of (heel) dunne exemplaren in. Daarvoor kan je desnoods een wenkbrauwpenseel gebruiken. (Ik zag trouwens een paar indrukwekkende YouTube-reviews waarbij gaatjes in wenkbrauwen niet meer opvielen wanneer ze werden ‘gedicht’ met dit potlood.)

Whether you have full Emily in Paris brows or slightly less impressive ones, the right make-up products accentuate them and make them more pronounced. These four recent launches promise full(er), groomed brows.

Benefit’s Brow Microfilling Pen in Deep Brown, 27,90 €.
This pen with a three prong tip promises a microblading effect but without the commitment, pain and permanent result. You simply flick it in short strokes and it mimics hairlike strokes.
Start by putting the longest prong closest to your nose. Turn the pen sideways at the arch and angle it down toward your temple. Fill in the tail with diagonal downward motions. It feels a bit weird using this pen at the beginning but you quickly get used to it. Depending on how you hold it, it draws one or three hairs.
I like to add some hairs at the beginning of my brows to make them look slightly fuller without ever looking fake. The waterproof, long-lasting ink formula stays put for a long time. Just make sure you use it on clean, dry skin that doesn’t feel oily (due to foundation or day cream), otherwise the ink will not stick to skin.
Clarins’ Brow Duo in 03 Cool Brown, 27 €.
“You have done something to your brows,” is the first thing my boyfriend remarks after I used this product for the very first time. True. And proof that you can go a bit over the top with this two-in-one product. Less definitely is more.
Start with less product than you think you should use and blend them well into your brows, otherwise your brows might end up looking very made up. I guess that the more you use these two products, the ‘better’ their formula will become, like a newly opened mascara that has the perfect texture after a couple of weeks use.
You first apply the powder that defines your brows and makes them look fuller. (It has a surprising texture that feels fresh like water.) Then you fix hairs and powder in place with the mascara gel that adds colour, too.
You can compare this pen to the classic brow powder and wax in a compact but I find it a handier system as you do not necessarily need a decent brow pencil and brush to apply the products and blend them. (Those, however, can help when you have used too much product.)

Another two-in-one product! First draw in your brows with the liquid gel with caring walnut oil, then use the mascara to set.
I think this product is very good value for money: the colour stays put all day long and also sticks well to the skin under my brows so they instantly look fuller. (I also slightly prefer its colours to the Cool Brown of Clarins.) Just make sure you do not overdo it with the powder at the beginning of your brows, that can look a bit fake. The formulas feel featherlight, as if you are not wearing any product on your brows, which I love.
Maybelline New York‘s Brow Extensions Fiber Pomade Crayon in 06 Deep Brown, 8,99 €.
Nope, those weird little hairs you can spot on the picture are not mould, they are the fibers Maybelline added to this gel pencil to make your brows look fuller. They are often added to brow mascara, not that often to a brow pencil. (Max Factor launched a good one earlier this year but it seems to have already been discontinued.)
The more strokes you apply with this pencil, the fuller your brows will look. A bit too much? Brush your brows through with a brow brush, which I always do to put my brow hairs into place after making them up.
The gel stays put for a long time and keeps brow hairs under control as well. The only con: the pencil tip is quite thick, which makes it hard to draw in the brow tail or (very) thin brows. You could use a brow pencil to do that. I watched some pretty impressive YouTube reviews btw in which gaps in brows were no longer noticeable after using this pencil.
