Gucci Beauty’s Winter’s Spring Eau de Parfum, 295 €, via De Bijenkorf
If you can spend the money on them, the scents of Gucci’s haute parfumerie collection The Alchemist’s Garden form a beautiful gift, inside and out. The eau de parfums are created by Alberto Morillas and come in beautiful, vintage-looking bottles that are inspired by the first fragrance bottles in pharmacies centuries ago. You can mix and match the fragrances as you please but you can of course wear them on their own, too.
Winter’s Spring is a soft, happy vibes mimosa scent that symbolizes the first signs of spring at the end of winter. Pepper and musk are added to the powdery smelling yellow flowers. My first sniffs of this scent reminded me of the smell of baby powder and baby heads (not in a creepy way!) thanks to the musk. But once I read that it is a mimosa scent the pieces all fell together. This is a lovely, slightly vintage scent and ideal for anyone who likes the smell of mimosa.
Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres N°5, 57 €
Chanel’s holiday make-up collection is inspired by its iconic fragrance Chanel N°5, including classy red lipsticks and this beautiful eye shadow palette. If you want to rock a smokey eye with sparkling golden accents this holiday season, this palette contains all the eye shadows you need.
Elin Cosmetics’ make-up brushes, from 14,95 €
I made chameleons and mermaids out of toilet roll, Flemish MUA Sabine Peeters launched her own brand of vegan make-up brushes as a lockdown project. The reason: she could not find affordable, good quality make-up brushes she absolutely adored using. The brushes are made by hand in Japan, are made of synthetic fibers and are incredibly soft.
When I received the brushes pictured, I may have massaged my make-up-free face with them all afternoon long just because they feel so soft on skin. They have since made it to my personal make-up brush collection. I especially love the foundation brush that does its job exceptionally well.
Kiko Milano’s A Holiday Fable Divine Glow Highlighter in Secret Gold, 16,99 €
If, like me, you like your highlighter (rather) subtle and without big chunky glitters, this pretty champagne coloured powder might be your new favourite highlighter. You can of course use it to highlight your cheekbones but I also like this one as a soft eye shadow to make your eyes sparkle. And its chic little box makes it look much more expensive than it is.
Kjaer Weis’ Im-possible Mascara, 34 €, at Beauty by Kroonen in Brussels
This is my favourite mascara of the season. It is more pricey but it makes my lashes look incredibly long, gives them a nice curl and natural-looking volume and its formula does not clump. The packaging is refillable and looks incredibly chic (and Christmassy).
Guerlain’s Rouge G Luxurious Velvet in 214 Flame Red, 35 € for a lipstick refill, 36 € for the lipstick case.
This lipstick isn’t part of the Christmas collection of the French brand but its suede lipstick case just screams to be taken out of your clutch at the Christmas dinner table to give your red lips a touch-up. The lipstick itself is a classic red with a matte velvety finish.
M.A.C.’s Ruby Woo, 20,50 €
THE iconic, matte cherry red with a blue undertone that suits just about everyone came in a pretty, limited-edition lipstick case as part of the Ruby Crew Collection. It’s long-lasting and matte but it does not feel drying on your lips. Dab it on for a bit of colour or go all out with lipliner, a lip pencil and a coat of this highly pigmented lipstick.
Babyliss’ Midnight Luxe Hot Air Styler, 39,90 €, at Di
Why not give a loved one an easy blowout at home tool? This hot air styling brush comes with two heads. The round brush creates volume and movement, the other one creates sleek hairdos. I am pretty impressed with this hairstyling tool, I think it is good value for money and I love the dark blue with golden details that make the tool look much more expensive than it is.
The Body Shop’s Clean Conscience Reusable Make-up Remover Pads, 14 €.
This organic cotton bag contains 7 reusable, soft make-up remover pads made from organic cotton and bamboo. One for every day of the week, which comes in pretty handy. Once a week, you put the little bag with the used pads in the washing machine and they’re ready for another week of removing make-up.

Winter’s Spring Eau de Parfum van Gucci Beauty, € 295, via De Bijenkorf
Een mooie (letterlijk en figuurlijk) cadeautip voor wie er het geld aan kan besteden: de geuren uit de haute parfumeriecollectie The Alchemist’s Garden van Gucci. De eau de parfums worden samengesteld door Alberto Morillas en zitten in prachtige verpakkingen die doen denken aan de eerste parfumflacons uit apotheken van weleer. Je kan ze mixen en matchen met elkaar of met de geparfumeerde waters en oliën uit de collectie. Maar gelukkig zijn ze, gezien hun prijskaartje, ook perfect draagbaar an sich.
Winter’s Spring is een zachte, vrolijke mimosageur die de eerste tekenen van de lente aan het einde van de winter symboliseert. Met verder ook peper en muskus. Ik moest bij de eerste noten denken aan babypoeder en de geur van babyhoofdjes (niet op een creepy manier), maar daar zit de muskus voor wat tussen. Dit is een mooie, licht vintage geurende creatie die fans van mimosa zeker zal plezieren.
Les 4 Ombres N°5 van Chanel, € 57.
Voor zijn kerstcollectie liet het modehuis zich inspireren door zijn iconische parfum Chanel N°5 met onder meer mooie rode lipsticks en dit oogschaduwpallet. Dat is perfect om een smokey eye met gouden accenten te creëren, of een gouden blik met een zwart lijntje.
Make-upborstels van Elin Cosmetics, vanaf € 14,95.
De Vlaamse make-upartiest Sabine Peeters vond maar geen betaalbare make-upborstels van goede kwaliteit die helemaal naar haar zin waren. Dus besloot ze haar eigen merk op te richten. (Noem het een serieus uit de hand gelopen lockdownproject.) De vegan borstels worden met de hand in Japan gemaakt, bestaan uit synthetisch haar en zijn onvoorstelbaar zacht.
Toen ik ze aankreeg, heb ik er een namiddagje mee over mijn onopgemaakte gezicht gewreven omdat ze zo zacht zijn. Intussen zitten ze in mijn persoonlijke make-upborstelcollectie en ben ik grote fan van de foundationborstel die zijn werk érg goed doet.
A Holiday Fable Divine Glow Highlighter in Secret Gold van Kiko Milano, € 16,99.
Als je net als ik van subtiele(re) highlighters houdt zonder grote glitters, is dit champagnekleurige poeder met feestelijk motief een aanrader. Mooi als highlighter op je jukbeenderen, of als oogschaduw voor subtiele glitter op je ogen. Het chique doosje doet bovendien een duurder prijskaartje vermoeden, wat mooi meegenomen is.
Im-possible Mascara van Kjaer Weis, € 34, o.m. bij Beauty by Kroonen in Brussel
Dit is mijn favoriete mascara van het seizoen. Niet goedkoop, maar mijn wimpers zien er onvoorstelbaar lang uit wanneer ik deze draag, met een naturel ogend volume en een mooie krul. De formule klontert niet en kan je mooi opbouwen. De navulbare verpakking oogt erg chic én kerstmissig.
Rouge G Luxurious Velvet in 214 Flame Red van Guerlain, € 35 voor een lipstickrefill, € 36 voor de huls.
Niet uit de kerstcollectie van het merk, maar deze velours huls is perfect om uit je handtas te halen om je lippen bij te werken bij het kerstdiner. Binnenin zit een matte lippenstift in een klassiek rood die lang blijft zitten en de lippen comfortabel belooft te houden.
Ruby Woo van M.A.C, € 20,50
Dé iconische kersenrode tint met blauwe ondertoon staat iedereen en kwam deze herfst in een vrolijke limited edition-verpakking als onderdeel van de Ruby Crew Collection. Wat lipstick op je mond deppen met je vinger voor een waasje kleur, of je gaat voluit voor een Hollywoodmond met lippotlood, een lippenseel en twee laagjes van deze lippenstift. Die blijft lang zitten en is mat, maar voelt toch comfortabel op de lippen.
Midnight Luxe Hot Air Styler van Babyliss, € 39,90, o.m. bij Di
Schenk een geliefde een makkelijke, snelle blowout in de eigen badkamer met deze warme luchtborstel. Met de ronde borstel geef je je kapsel volume en slag, met het andere opzetstuk creëer je een sluik kapsel (met volume). Ik ben onder de indruk van dit toestel, dat wat mij betreft een érg goede prijs-kwaliteitverhouding heeft. En het donkerblauw met gouden details doen het toestel duurder ogen dan het is.
Clean Conscience Reusable Make-up Remover Pads van The Body Shop, € 14.
Voor elke dag van de week een zacht, herbruikbaar watje uit biokatoen en bamboe in een handig tasje waarin je de vuile exemplaren stopt voor je ze in de wasmachine steekt.
