Dekking gezocht: deze vijf nieuwe foundations beloven glow, een zonnige gloed, een twee-in-één of een matte huid. Maar maken ze die beloftes vlekkenloos waar?

L’Essentiel van Guerlain, € 55, beschikbaar in 30 tinten
De formule met 97% natuurlijke ingrediënten (mee met de “groene trend”) belooft 16 uur lang een natuurlijke glow en medium dekking en bevat hydraterende ingrediënten, antioxidanten en wat prebiotica die je huid op de duur sterker en mooier moeten maken.
Die gloed is er zeker (en is subtieler dan die van Dior, zie hieronder), maar zonder afpoederen is 16 uur wel erg lang. Maar al bij al een fijne foundation.
Always Fabulous Long Lasting Stick Foundcealer van Bourjois, € 18,99, beschikbaar in 10 tinten.
Foundation en concealer in één, ofte foundcealer, het is iets wat Clinique (in mijn ogen) erg goed deed met zijn Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer. (Sommige mensen vinden de textuur ervan te dik, ik gebruikte haar graag.) Nu komt Bourjois met zijn hybride foundation-en concealerstick die je makkelijk in je handtas stopt. (Er zit zelfs een ingebouwd blendkussentje in.)
De crèmige stick glijdt vlotjes over de huid en dekt medium. Vlekjes en donkere kringen blijven licht zichtbaar. Je kan de dekking opbouwen (de concealerkant, zeg maar), maar dan oogt het resultaat niet meer zo naturel. Bij mij haalt de stick geen hele dag, ze in je handtas stoppen is dus een aanrader.
Maar ik ben niet overtuigd: voor pendelaars die op de trein hun make-up doen is dit misschien een handig product, maar ik vind andere foundations van Bourjois een stuk fijner in gebruik.
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop Foundation van NYX, € 16,70, beschikbaar in 30 tinten
Niet iedereen wil glowy yoga skin en dus komt NYX met een matte foundation die erg dekkend belooft te zijn. Bonus voor mijn linaloolallergie: dit is de enige parfumvrije formule van alle geteste foundations.
Jammer genoeg blijkt de formule helemaal geen match te zijn met mijn normale huid en, gok ik, ook niet met een droge. Ze benadrukt de drogere plekjes op mijn gezicht (ik gebruik altijd make-up bovenop een hydraterende verzorging) en kruipt in mijn nochtans niet verwijde poriën die daardoor opvallen.
Een primer lost het probleem niet op, wat olie voor ik de foundation gebruik ook niet. Online vind je, naast negatieve ervaringen, ook lovende recensies. Ik vrees dat dit dus een hit and miss-product is.
Dior Forever Skin Glow van Dior, € 52,70, beschikbaar in 67 tinten (maar slechts 32 in België)
Peter Philips, you strike again. Deze foundation groeide heel snel uit tot mijn favoriete foundationlancering van dit seizoen. De formule zorgt voor veel glow zonder glitter (zonder té te ogen), alsof je huid van binnenuit straalt. Erg lange houdbaarheid ook, zelfs zonder afpoederen: aan het eind van de dag is de foundation slechts licht vervaagd.
Het ruime kleur- en ondertoonassortiment past mooi binnen de inclusivity trend: voor iedereen de juiste tint, van erg licht tot donker. Wel jammer dat in België niet het volledige kleurgamma beschikbaar is.
Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint in Medium van Chanel, € 60, beschikbaar in 6 tinten
Toegegeven, dit is geen échte foundation: zoek je dekking, dan is dit product niets voor jou. De teintproducten binnen Les Beiges moeten je huid een door de zon gekuste, natuurlijke gloed geven, alsof je net een heerlijk weekendje in de zon hebt doorgebracht. (Mét zonbescherming, natuurlijk.)
De laatste nieuwkomer in de familie is een erg vloeibare formule met pigmentbolletjes die open breken zodra je ze uitsmeert, of met het bijhorende penseeltje uitwerkt. (Net als de vloeibare foundation van Jane Iredale, dus.) De bedoeling: je gezicht allover of als highlighter een zomerse gloed geven.
Op Instagram is dit nu al een bijzonder gehypet product (de Britse beautypers lijkt het unaniem fantastisch te vinden), maar ik heb gemengde gevoelens: pas nadat ik drie pompjes van de Mediumtint over mijn gezicht heb gesmeerd, zie ik een érg subtiel zonnig effect (erg spaarzaam kan je met de inhoud van 30 ml dus niet zijn, gok ik). Mijn huid heeft wél een opvallende glow en voelt zacht aan. Maar is dat € 60 waard? Geef mij maar de Les Teint Healthy Glow Foundation met de juiste bronzer en highlighter.

These five new foundations promise to give your skin a lovely (sunny) glow, make and keep it matte or be a handy on the go multitasker. But are they worth the investment?
L’Essentiel by Guerlain, 55 €, available in 30 colors
The formula with 97% naturally derived ingredients (very on trend) promises medium coverage and a natural glow that will stay put for 16 hours. It contains hydrating ingredients, antioxidants and some prebiotics that should strengthen your skin and make it look more beautiful over time.
The result is glowy (but a more subtle glow than the Dior foundation) but you need some finishing powder if you would like it to stay put for 16 hours. But all in all, a nice foundation.

Foundation and concealer in one – foundcealer – is something Clinique does very well (in my opinion) with its Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer. (Some people think its texture is too thick but I liked using it.) Bourjois launched its hybrid foundation and concealer stick in March. I like the idea of a stick you can put in your handbag and pop out wherever and whenever you need it. It even comes with a built-in blending cushion.
The creamy stick goes on easily and offers medium coverage. My dark under eye circles and pigmentation spots are still shining through. You can build up the coverage to cover them completely but that does mean the result does not look natural anymore. The formula does not stay put all day long on my skin neither.
I am not completely convinced by this two-in-one: it might be handy for commuters who do their make-up on the train but I prefer the other, more classic foundations in a jar by the brand.
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop Foundation by NYX, 16,70 €, available in 30 colours
Not everyone wants glowy yoga skin. This foundation was made for people who like their skin fully covered and matte. Bonus for my allergy to linalool: this is the only fragrance-free formula.
Unfortunately, this formula is no match with my normal skin. (It won’t work on dry skin either, I think.) It is sucked up by the drier spots in my face – although I always hydrate before putting on make-up – and by my pores that are not even enlarged but are sure being enhanced by this foundation.
Using a primer does not solve the problem, some facial oil before applying the foundation neither. I read some negative reviews online but there were some positive ones, too. I am afraid this one is a hit and miss product.
Dior Forever Skin Glow, 52,70 €, available in 67 colours (only 32 in Belgium)
Peter Philips, you strike again. This foundation quickly became my favourite foundation launch of the season. The glitter-free formula really delivers on glow: it makes my face look very glowy as if it is radiating from within. It stays put for a very long time even if I do not use powder: at the end of the day the foundation has only slightly faded on my skin.
The large colour and undertone range fits in perfectly with the inclusivity trend and offers very light to dark colours. Just a pity not every colour is available in Belgium.
Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint in Medium by Chanel, 60 €, available in 6 colours
This is not a real foundation: if you want coverage, this product is will not give it. The powders, foundation and tinted moisturizer of Les Beiges all promise a healthy, sun-kissed, all natural glow as if you just spent the entire weekend outside, enjoying yourself.
This new launch is a very fluid formula with tiny balls of pigment that break open when you apply it. (Like Jane Iredale’s fluid foundation.) It promises to give your face a summery glow allover, or as a highlighter.
The water-fresh tint is already a bit of a hype on Instagram – British beauty journalists seem to think it is a fantastic product – but I am not that enthusiastic. It takes three pumps of the Medium colour before I notice a very slight sunny effect on my face. (At that pace, the 30 ml bottle will not last me long.) It makes my face look very glowy and it feels nice on my skin though but is that worth the 60 euro price tag? I prefer the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation with a good bronzer and highlighter.
