Hittegolf betekent zo weinig mogelijk make-up (die smelt toch maar van je huid) en één eye catcher die de aandacht afleidt van een misschien niet al te egale, zweterige huid.

Veel meer dan zonnecrème (en een zonnehoed, zonnebril en zoveel mogelijk schaduw) heeft je gezicht niet nodig op zonnige, hete zomerdagen, maar de zomer blijft ook het beste seizoen om met felle kleurtjes make-up te experimenteren. Die matchen mooi met een zongebruinde huid.
Een felle lip blijft een instant afleider van eventueel ongecamoufleerde donkere kringen en puistjes, maar je kan experimenteren met een felle kleur eyeliner. (Als je ooit je zonnebril afzet natuurlijk.) Een gekleurd streepje blijft subtiel vergeleken met een kanariegeel of oceaanblauw opgemaakt ooglid, kost minder moeite én als je een goede formule te pakken hebt, blijft eyeliner doorsnee ook een stuk langer mooi dan oogschaduw zonder primer wanneer het KMI de hoogste temperatuur ooit meet.
Proberen met één van deze snoepkleurtjes.
Grasgroen. Wonder’Swipe in 008 Crush on You van Rimmel (€ 10,99)
Een vleugje kerst pal in de zomer – net zoals Down Under – met deze metallic eyeliner. (Als je de formule uitwrijft wanneer je ze aanbrengt, creëer je een glanzende oogschaduw.) De formule belooft tot tien uur te blijven zitten, maar overleeft een hittegolf waarschijnlijk niet helemaal vlekkenloos. Bij mij vlekt deze formule na een paar uur lichtjes op dagen met een normale temperatuur, maar niet opvallend.
Turkoois. Botanical Color Eye Pencil in Bleu Agave van Yves Rocher (€ 9,90)
Je kan niet zo goed overweg met eyeliner? Dan kan je met oogpotlood aan de slag. Die formules zijn doorgaans minder langhoudend en minder smudge proof dan de doorsnee liquid eyeliner, maar dit potlood glijdt soepel over de huid en blijft (vrij) lang zitten. Niet het allerbeste oogpotlood als het op houdbaarheid aankomt (zie hieronder), maar het komt ook in andere mooie felle kleurtjes en momenteel kan je het aan de helft van de prijs kopen.
Sinaasappel. Khôl Couture Waterproof in N° 09 Tangerine (limited edition) van Givenchy (€ 21,50)
De Khôl Couturepotloden van Givenchy zijn érg goed: ze glijden soepel over de huid en blijven erg lang zitten zonder vervagen of vlekken maken. (Mooie kleurselectie ook.) Deze limited edition uit de zomercollectie zorgt instant voor een zonnige blik.
Citroengeel. Diorshow on Stage Liner in 541 Matte Yellow van Dior (€ 36,24)
De Diorshow on Stage-viltstiftjes werden vorig jaar met veel succes gelanceerd en dat is begrijpelijk: ze komen in een ruim assortiment van matte en metallic kleuren en blijven lang zitten. Op mijn huid is de houdbaarheid wel afhankelijk van de kleur. De matblauwe vlekt bij mij na een paar uur, deze gele blijft dan weer een hele dag perfect zitten. En mat citroengeel is een stuk draagbaarder dan je denkt. (Mocht je die in live action willen zien: ik heb een video op Instagram TV gepost.)
Paars. Artliner in Purple van Lancôme (€ 36,50)
Eén van mijn favoriete eyeliners ooit – want makkelijk in gebruik en smudge proof – bestaat nu in tien nieuwe tinten. Dit paars mag de braafste kleur uit deze selectie zijn, het matcht erg mooi bij groene of bruine ogen. En de metallic finish zorgt voor een extraatje.
Schrikt gekleurde eyeliner je toch iets te veel af? Dan kan je gekleurde mascara proberen. Shiseido lanceerde deze lente een blauwe, paarse en groene versie van zijn ControlledChaos MascaraInk. Subtiel kleurrijk.

Heatwaves equal the bare minimum of make-up – it only melts off your face anyway – and one eye catcher that diverts attention from your sweaty skin.
Summer is the most relaxed season to experiment with bright make-up. Colour matches sun kissed skin just so well. True, your face does not need much more than sunscreen (and a sun hat, sunglasses and as much shadow as possible) on hot days but why not give a tiny bit of make-up a go?
A bright lippy draws all the attention so you can skip the concealer but you can also experiment with bright eyeliner. (If you ever take your sunglasses off that is.) It is more subtle than painting your eyelids canary yellow or ocean blue and a lot quicker than applying a primer and eyeshadow. Plus, if you find the right formula, it stays put all day long despite the humidity or a dive in the swimming pool, what cannot be said of most eyeshadows.
Why not play around with one of the jelly bean coloured liners?
Green. Wonder’Swipe in 008 Crush on You by Rimmel (10,99€)
This bright metallic green eyeliner is perfect for Christmas in the middle of summer vibes – Ozzy style! The formula promises to stay put for 10 hours but I think it will not survive a heatwave day without smudging a bit. (Whenever I wear it, it smudges a bit after a couple of hours but not in a bad way.)
Good to know: it is a 2-in-1 product. If you smudge the formula when you apply it, you can create a shimmery eye shadow.
Turquoise. Botanical Color Eye Pencil in Bleu Agave by Yves Rocher (9,90 €)
You are not that handy with liquid liner? An eye pencil can work too. Most pencils do not last as long and certainly are not as smudge proof as a lot of liquid liners but this one glides smoothly over skin and stays put for (quite) a long time without budging. It is not the best smudge proof eye pencil I ever used but it comes in a lot of pretty colours and you can get it at half price right now.
Orange. Khôl Couture Waterproof in N° 09 Tangerine (limited edition) by Givenchy (21,50 €)
Givenchy does incredibly good khôl pencils. They glide over skin in the smoothest way , come in pretty colours and stay put all day long without fading or smudging (much). This limited edition from the summer collection is perfect for a sunny look.
Yellow. Dior’s Diorshow on Stage Liner in 541 Matte Yellow (36,24 €)
Dior launched its Diorshow on Stage Liners last year and they were an instant success. They come in quite a lot of bright and traditional colours and matte or metallic finishes, they are easy to work with and they stay put all day long. However, on my skin it depends on the colour I am using. The matte blue does stain after a couple of hours, this lemon colour stays put perfectly. And it is a lot more wearable than you might think. Purple. Artliner in Purple by Lancôme (36,50 €)
One of my all-time favourite eyeliners – perfectly smudge proof, handy to use, pretty and very wearable colours – comes in ten new colours. This purple might be the most subtle of this selection but it matches green or brown eyes so well. It has a metallic finish, which I think gives it something extra.
And if you think bright eyeliner is still a bit too much for you there’s always coloured mascara. Shiseido launched a pretty blue, green and purple version of its ControlledChaos MascaraInk this spring. Colour done subtle.
