3 concealers that make you look wide awake

Je wil er fris en monter uitzien (voor je zoveelste zoommeeting)? Deze drie concealers zorgen voor een uitgeslapen blik en verdoezelen wat ze moeten verdoezelen zonder maskereffect.

Concealer belandt bij mij vooral onder mijn ogen en in mijn binnenste ooghoeken om mijn donkere kringen te dekken, maar ik gebruik hem ook op het rode, schilferige plekje dat van tijd tot tijd naast mijn rechterneusvleugel opduikt, op een eventueel puistje of om mijn rode wangen te temperen. (Ik gebruik concealer vaak an sich, zonder foundation, zeker wanneer ik weinig tijd of zin heb om mijn make-up te doen, maar er wel frisser wil uitzien.)

Een goede concealer heeft voor mij een (vrij) vloeibare textuur die je makkelijk met zowel je vingers als met een concealerpenseel uitwerkt en die je, naar gelang je behoefte, kan opbouwen van medium (hij moet natuurlijk wel iets verdoezelen, waarom doe je anders de moeite om concealer te gebruiken?) tot goed dekkend.

Deze drie concealers voel je niet zitten, blijven lang zitten (swatches overleven een douche), zijn vrij van parfum (niet elke concealer is dat, goed om weten als je gevoelig/allergisch bent aan parfumbestanddelen) en heb ik de voorbije maanden het vaakst gebruikt, naast mascara.

Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer van Shiseido, € 32.

De duurste van het trio, maar dit is dan ook een clevere concealer: zijn formule past zich dankzij de Active Forcetechnologie aan de omstandigheden aan. Warmte, talg, vocht, bewegen… ze hebben geen invloed op de concealer die 24 uur lang (medium tot volledige) dekking belooft. (Of dat echt zo is, heb ik niet getest: wie loopt er 24 uur lang met concealer rond, tenzij je naar Sydney vliegt en er bij aankomst enigszins fris wil uitzien? Maar hij blijft wel goed zitten. Ik poeder voor de zekerheid nog wat af, maar die stap zou je kunnen overslaan.)

Ook fijn bij een (duurdere) concealer: de formule doet meer dan louter camoufleren. Wilde tijmextract werkt als antioxidant, een polymeer zorgt ervoor dat vuiltjes niet op de huid kunnen blijven plakken en het smart correcting powder verbetert de teint en huidtextuur.

Dit is de dikste formule van de drie, maar je werkt ze erg makkelijk uit en kan ze mooi in laagjes opbouwen als je meer dekking nodig hebt. Zonder dat je het product op je huid ziet liggen. Met het zandloperborsteltje breng je het makkelijk overal aan, ook in de binnenste ooghoeken. Fijne glansdeeltjes zorgen voor een zachte glow. (De andere twee producten hebben volgens mijn oog geen glanspartikeltjes.)

In België beschikbaar in 16 kleuren die vrij goed verspreid liggen over de zes Fitzpatrickhuidtypes.

Face Finity All Day Flawless Concealer van Max Factor, € 13,99.

Ook deze formule beweegt mee met je huid dankzij de Flexi-holdtechnologie en belooft de hele dag mooi te blijven zitten. Makkelijk om te blenden, makkelijk om medium tot volledige dekking op te bouwen.

Beschikbaar in 8 tinten waarvan de donkerste niet heel donker is. (Max Factor is niet het meest inclusieve merk bij de drogist.)

Age Perfect Radiant Concealer van L’Oréal Paris, € 13,99, o.m. bij Di.

Laat je niet misleiden door de naam: ja, het Age Perfect-gamma is specifiek samengesteld voor de ‘rijpere’ huid, maar dat betekent niet dat je het als twintiger of dertiger niet kan gebruiken. Deze concealerformule belooft niet in lijntjes en rimpeltjes te kruipen en laat ons eerlijk zijn: die hebben we haast allemaal onder onze ogen, of je nu 36, 66 of 86 bent.

Ik besloot dit product te testen omdat ik zo van de Accord Parfait-concealer van L’Oréal Paris houd die naar mijn gevoel een gelijkaardige formule heeft. Ze bevatten beide cafeïne die na verloop van tijd bij regelmatig/dagelijks gebruik donkere kringen moet verminderen (waarover ik mijn twijfels heb) en voedende bestanddelen als glycerine.

Dit is een lichte concealer die je makkelijk uitwerkt en mooi in laagjes kan opbouwen zonder cakey effect. Hij heeft de dunste textuur van de drie en is iets minder dekkend dan de andere twee, maar in mijn ogen wel een tikje glowier.

Jammer genoeg is deze concealer slechts beschikbaar in 3 tinten: light, medium en dark. Ik gebruik de medium (en ben vrij bleek) en vind de dark nog altijd vrij licht. De Accord Parfait-concealer is inclusiever en in ons land in 9 tinten beschikbaar.

You want to look fresh and fruity (for yet another Zoom meeting)? These three concealers make you look wide awake and cover what they need to cover while staying completely invisible on your skin.

I need concealer to cover my darkish under eye circles and inner corners of my eyes but it also comes in handy to cover up the occasional spot and the red, flaky spot that turns up from time to time next to my right nostril or to even out my red cheeks. (I like using concealer on its own, without foundation, when I don’t have a lot of time to do my make-up or do not feel like doing my make-up but want to look a bit more alive.)

A good concealer to me has a (pretty) liquid formula that you can easily blend with your fingers (or a concealer brush) and that you can build up from medium to full coverage.

These three concealers have weightless formulas that stay put a long time (their swatches survived a shower), are fragrance-free (not every concealer is) and have been my most used make-up products the past couple of months, together with mascara.

Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer by Shiseido, 32 €.

The most expensive one of the three is a clever one: its formula adapts itself to all circumstances thanks to the Active Force technology. Meaning it can deal with heat, sebum, moisture and movement. The concealer promises to give medium to full coverage for 24 hours. (I never get why a product should stay perfect for 24 hours, unless you want to look wide awake after your 23 hour flight to Sydney.)

It also offers some extra care. Wild thyme extract works as an antioxidant, a polymer makes it impossible for dirt to attach itself to skin and the smart correcting powder improves skin’s texture and skin tone.

This is the thickest formula of the three concealers but it is still easy to use, blends perfectly into skin and you can apply several layers of it without it lying visibly on your skin. The hourglass shaped applicator makes it easy to apply the formula anywhere, the inner corner of the eye included. Subtle glowy particles give the concealer a soft glowy finish. (The other two do not have any glowy particles as far as I can see.)

This concealer is available in 16 colours in Belgium that are pretty well divided between the six Fitzpatrick skin types.

Face Finity All Day Flawless Concealer by Max Factor, 13,99 €.

This formula also moves along with your skin thanks to the Flexi-hold technology and promises to stay put all day long. It is easy to blend and easy to build up medium to full coverage.

Available in 8 colours. (The darkest one is not that dark. Max Factor is not the most inclusive make-up brand on the high street.) It seems unavailable at Di and Kruidvat at the moment but you can buy it from Bol.com.

Don’t let its name deceive you: yes, the Age Perfect range is developed for ‘mature’ skin but that does not mean you cannot use its products as a twenty or thirty-something. The concealer formula promises to not gather into fine lines and wrinkles and let’s be honest: most of us have those under the eyes, whether you’re 36, 66 or 86.

I wanted to try this concealer as I am a big fan of L’Oréal Paris’s True Match concealer and they looked alike. Both contain caffeine that has to diminish dark circles when you use it daily (which I doubt) and nourishing ingredients like glycerin.

The Age Perfect concealer is a light one you can easily blend and layer without it looking cakey. It has the thinnest texture of all three products and is a bit less covering than the other two but looks a bit more glowy.

It is a pity it only comes in three shades: light, medium and dark, the dark one not being that dark at all. (I use the medium shade and I am pretty pale.) The True Match concealer is more inclusive and available in 9 colours in Belgium.
