Getinte zonnecrème, veel meer heeft je gezicht niet nodig op zonnige, hete dagen, want hoge bescherming en wat kleur in één. Ik testte er vier uitgebreid en vond een nieuwe favoriet.

Het wordt steeds makkelijker om getinte zonnecrème te vinden: de meeste merken hebben er intussen wel eentje. Het grote probleem blijft wel het kleuraanbod. ‘Eén kleur matcht iedereen’ klinkt mooi in theorie, in de praktijk moeten (erg) bleke huiden het dan vaak stellen met een oranje teint en (erg) donkere met een assige. Geen goede look.
Ik heb geluk met mijn huid, die ergens tussen bleek en medium in zit, en kon deze vier nieuwkomers testen. Voor de (erg) bleke of donkere huid zijn ze waarschijnlijk geen aanrader. Een tip: de Super Serum Skin Tint van Ilia komt in 18 kleuren, geeft de huid een mooie gloed, verzorgt en heeft SPF30.
Deze selectie past in de categorie die ik urban SPF doop: producten voor dagelijks gebruik met een hoge SPF die ook beschermen tegen vervuiling. (De combinatie van uv en pollutie heet fotovervuiling en versnelt het huidverouderingsproces nog meer dan enkel uv-stralen.) Ze hebben een fijne textuur die je graag gebruikt en bevatten vaak een kleurtje, zodat je foundation eventueel kan overslaan.
Capital Soleil UV-Age Daily SPF50+ Tinted van Vichy, € 19,95
Ik was al grote fan van dit héél vloeibare zonbeschermingsproduct toen het vorig jaar lanceerde en ben dan ook erg blij dat er nu ook een getinte versie bestaat. De kleur is voor mij een perfecte match, maar ik betwijfel of ze voor de (meer) donkere huid veel doet.
Ik breng de correcte hoeveelheid product aan (zo’n halve theelepel) om de juiste SPF-bescherming te krijgen en het resultaat oogt niet cakey. Je moet geen volledige dekking verwachten, maar in combinatie met concealer waar nodig ben ik blij met hoe mijn huid oogt: egaal, maar naturel.
Let er trouwens op dat je zeker voldoende product smeert: met erg vloeibare formules als deze heb je al eens de neiging weinig te gebruiken omdat ze zo fijn en makkelijk uitsmeren.
Naast het lichte kleurtje ben ik ook erg blij met de (erg) hoge uv A- en uv B-bescherming. De gepatenteerde Netlocktechnologie zorgt er bovendien voor dat de zonnefilters een hechte, egale beschermlaag vormen die goed blijft zitten.
De formule met peptiden, thermaal water van Vichy, probiotica, niacinamide en glycerine verzorgt de huid bovendien en helpt huidveroudering tegen gaan. (Wat een product met zonnefilters natuurlijk sowieso doet, aangezien uv tot vervroegde huidveroudering leidt.) Perliet helpt de huid bovendien mat houden, wat op een zweterige dag een fijn idee is. En de formule beschermt ook tegen vervuiling.
Ik gebruik onder deze geen moisturizer en mijn huid voelt ook niet aan alsof ze behoefte heeft aan extra voeding/hydratatie.
Prijs-kwaliteit is dit een érg goed product. Er bestaan natuurlijk goedkopere producten, maar binnen die categorie vond ik nog geen getinte versie die zo goed met mijn huid matcht als deze.
Het enige minpuntje vanuit mijn ik ben allergisch aan 9 cosmeticabestanddelen-situatie: de formule is geparfumeerd. Maar ze is wel hypoallergeen, dus ik ga ervan uit dat het parfum dat ook is. Mijn huid lijkt er alleszins niet op te reageren. Maar mocht ik kunnen kiezen, zou ik toch liefst een niet-geparfumeerde versie smeren, just to be on the safe side.
FotoUltra Age Repair Color Fusion Water SPF50 van ISDIN, € 34,10
Ondanks zijn naam is dit product een stuk minder vloeibaar/waterachtig dan je zou denken/dan UV-Age Daily van Vichy. Het is eerder een lichte crème die makkelijk uitsmeert en fijn aanvoelt op de huid.
De “universele” kleur is voor mijn huid wat te donker, maar ik kom er nog nét mee weg: het lijkt alsof mijn gezicht wat gebruind is door de zon. Voor een heel bleke (of donkere) huid zou deze tint wel niet werken, denk ik, ook al beweert het merk dat ze zich aan elke huidskleur aanpast. Ik kom ook met deze licht dekkende formule en nog wat concealer erbij perfect de dag door met een egale, gezond ogende teint.
Ook deze formule moet huidveroudering, veroorzaakt door fotovervuiling, bestrijden met een mix van actieve bestanddelen waaronder peptiden, vitamine C en planktonextract.
De crème is (licht) geparfumeerd, maar de formule is hypoallergeen, net als UV Age Daily van Vichy. Ik lijk ook op dit parfum niet te reageren, maar zou het heel fijn vinden mocht er ook een niet-geparfumeerde versie bestaan. En misschien toch ook een iets lichter tintje.
Photoaging Control Tinted Sun Gel-Cream SPF50+ van Eucerin, € 23.
Eucerin vroeg make-upartiest Marianna Mukuchyan om de kleuren voor zijn getinte zonbescherming te ontwikkelen. Een slimme zet, aangezien veel huidverzorgingsmerken wat de mist ingaan wanneer ze getinte producten moeten ontwikkelen. De mediumkleur blijkt voor mijn huid wel véél te donker.
Jammer genoeg eindig ik ook met een vlekkerig resultaat omdat de formule aan pilling doet, je weet wel, dat ze van je huid afrolt in kleine stukjes wanneer je ze inmasseert. Vaak ligt dat aan de combinatie met andere verzorgings- of make-upproducten en (te veel) siliconen. Ik probeer een paar verschillende combinaties, maar de gelcrème blijft pillen. En ook zonder een ander product op mijn huid krijg ik een vlekkerig resultaat. Wanneer ik het product op mijn hand smeer, pillt het trouwens niet.
Heel bizar en jammer, want an sich lijkt dit me een fijne formule die ook hydrateert dankzij hyaluronzuur en helpt beschermen tegen blauw licht dankzij antioxidant Licochalcone A. Ze bestaat trouwens ook in niet-getinte versie.
Superdefense City Block Daily Energy + Face Protector SPF50 van Clinique, € 30
Ik vond de Superdefense Gelmoisturizer met SPF40 een érg fijne moisturizer vorige lente en zomer dankzij zijn luchtige textuur en had dus high hopes voor deze crème met ongelooflijk lange naam.
An sich is dit geen getinte zonnecrème, maar de formule bevat wel wat pigment dat openbreekt wanneer je ze in de huid masseert en zich dan aan je huidskleur aanpast. (Wanneer ik mijn neus snuit, met dank aan het pollenseizoen, komt er wat kleur mee.) Heel veel dekking krijg je op deze manier niet, maar je teint ziet er wel net dat tikje egaler en gezonder uit.
Net nadat ik twee vingerlengtes crème heb gesmeerd (wat ongeveer moet overeenkomen met die halve theelepel product die je op je gezicht nodig hebt om de correcte SPF-bescherming te krijgen), blinkt mijn gezicht wat. Maar die glans trekt na een tijdje weg en mijn huid oogt dan mooi glowy.
Ik had de formule wat lichter verwacht omdat de gelmoisturizer zo luchtig is, maar ze smeert vlot uit en voelt niet zwaar aan op mijn huid. Ze moet naast uv ook tegen blauw licht en “agressieve omgevingsfactoren” beschermen. Fijn wanneer je in de stad/een stedelijk omgeving woont/werkt.
Tinted sunscreen ticks all the skincare boxes on sunny, hot days: high SPF, (light) coverage, done! I put four products to the test and found a new favourite.
Finding a tinted sunscreen has become a lot easier as most brands have one nowadays. But the colour range is still a (big) issue. ‘One colour suits all’ may sound nice in theory, in real life (very) pale skins often have to settle for an orange complexion and (very) dark ones for an ashy one. Not a good look.
I am lucky with my skin tone, which is somewhere between pale and medium, and was able to test these four new launches. However, I think they probably aren’t a great match with (very) pale and (very) dark skin. (They might want to try Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint. It comes in 18 colours, gives the skin a beautiful glow, is packed with active ingredients and has SPF30.)
These four products fit into the category that I like to call urban SPF: products for daily use that combine a high SPF with hydration and ingredients that help protect against pollution. (Photo-pollution, the combination of UV and pollution, accelerates the skin ageing process even more than UV alone.) They are easy to massage into skin so you like to use them every day of the year and often come in a tinted version as well, so you can skip foundation if you want to.
Vichy’s Capital Soleil UV-Age Daily SPF50+ Tinted, 19,95 €
I was already a big fan of this very liquid sunscreen when it launched last year and am very happy that it now also comes in a tinted version. The colour is a perfect match for me, but I doubt it does much for dark(er) skin.
I apply the correct amount of product to get the right amount of SPF protection (Belgian experts say 1/2 teaspoon for the face, abroad it seems to be 1/4 teaspoon) and the result does not look cakey. Don’t expect full coverage, but I am happy with how my skin looks when I combine it with concealer where necessary. Even but natural.
Just make sure you use enough of this product: you may tend to use too little of very liquid sunscreen formulas like this one because they spread so easily over skin.
Apart from the perfect colour match with my skin I also like that it offers (very) high uva and uvb protection. In addition, the patented Netlock technology ensures that the sunscreen filters form a strong and even protective layer that stays in place.
The formula with peptides, Vichy’s thermal water, probiotics, niacinamide and glycerine also promises to tackle skin ageing. (Any sunscreen product will help in that department of course as uv leads to premature skin ageing.) Perlite helps to keep skin shine-free, which is nice on hot, humid summer days. The formula also protects against pollution.
I do not use a regular moisturizer underneath this sunscreen and my skin does not feel like it needs extra hydration/nourishing.
Price-wise, this is a very good product. You can of course find cheaper tinted sunscreens but I have yet to find one (in Belgium) that matches my skin tone as well as this one.
The only negative I can think of from an I am allergic to 9 skincare ingredients view: the formula is scented. However, it is also hypoallergenic, so I assume the fragrance is too and my skin does not seem to react to it. If I had a choice, I would prefer to use a non-scented version, just to be on the safe side though.
ISDIN’s FotoUltra Age Repair Color Fusion Water SPF50, 34,10 €
Don’t let its name fool you: this product is a lot less fluid or water-like than you might think/than Vichy’s UV-Age Daily. It is a light cream that is easy to apply and feels nice on skin.
The ‘universal’ colour of its formula is a tad too dark for my skin tone but I think I can just about get away with it: it makes me look like I have a bit of a tan. However, I do not think this colour would work on (very) pale or dark skin tones even thought the brand claims it adapts to every skin colour. But I personally get away with the light coverage this formula offers and a bit of concealer where needed to create even, healthy looking skin.
Its formula promises to tackle the effects of photo pollution with its mix of actives like peptides, vitamin C and plankton extract.
It is (lightly) fragranced but the formula promises to be hypoallergenic, just as Vichy’s UV-Age Daily. And my skin seems to be fine with it. But a fragrance-free version and a lighter colour would come in handy though.
Eucerin’s Photoaging Control Tinted Sun Gel-Cream SPF50+, 23 €.
Eucerin asked make-up artist Marianna Mukuchyan to develop the colours for its tinted sunscreens. Which is a great idea as many skincare brands find it hard to develop tinted formulas that match skin tones well.
The medium colour is way too dark for my skin tone. Unfortunately, I also end up with very blotchy, uneven skin tone as the formula pills. You know what I mean: it rolls off the skin when you try to massage it in. Often, piling is caused when you apply different products on top of one another that don’t match because they/one of them contain(s) (lots of) silicones. I try using it with different skincare products but to no avail: it just keeps on pilling. Even when I apply it on bare skin. (On my hand it is fine though.)
Too bad, because in itself this looks like a fine formula that hydrates skin thanks to hyaluronic acid and helps protect against blue light thanks to the antioxidant Licochalcone A. By the way, it also exists in a non-tinted version.
Clinique’s Superdefense City Block Daily Energy + Face Protector SPF50, 30 €
I really enjoyed using Clinique’s Superdefense Gel Moisturiser with SPF40 last spring and summer thanks to its very light gel texture, so I had high hopes for this cream (with its incredibly long name).
This is not a tinted sunscreen per se, but the formula does contain some colour pigment that breaks open when you massage the formula into your skin and then adjusts to your skin tone. It is not very covering but it does even out skin a tiny bit.
Right after applying two finger lengths of sunscreen (which should correspond with the 1/4 teaspoon you should apply on your face to get the correct SPF protection, Belgian experts always say 1/2 teaspoon, so I’m guessing we have different tea spoon measurements?) my face looks a bit too greasy but it quickly settles down into a nice, healthy-looking glow.
I did think the formula would be a bit lighter because the gel moisturizer is so light but it does spread easily and does not feel heavy on my skin.
It not only offers uva and uvb protection but also protects against blue light and “aggressive environment factors”. Which is nice if you live/work in the city.
